Looking back at Gary Neville’s crazy prediction about Liverpool in 2019 as Reds prepare for title win
Liverpool are on the verge of clinching their 20th league title, needing just a draw against Tottenham Hotspur to officially get over the line this Sunday.
While Spurs have endured a turbulent campaign, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are firm favourites to seal the title in style.
Mohamed Salah has been instrumental in their title charge racking up an incredible 27 goals and 18 assists in 33 league games.
The Egyptian’s uncertain future at Anfield was a talking point all season, but the fans were given a reason for early celebrations, as Salah announced a contract extension.
His decision to extend his stay at Anfield comes as a major boost not just for the supporters, but for Slot as he plans for the future.
One man, however, who might not be too thrilled about Salah’s renewed commitment to Liverpool is Manchester United legend Gary Neville.

What Gary Neville said about Liverpool and Salah in 2019
Not only does Salah’s decision to stay mean he will continue to haunt Manchester United as he has so often in the past, but it also highlights just how far off Gary Neville’s prediction about him and Liverpool has turned out to be.
Back in 2019, Neville confidently claimed that Salah would leave Liverpool within a year, forecasting the Reds’ downfall and boldly suggesting that Manchester United would win the league before Liverpool.
Neville said (as quoted by ): “I can guarantee you as clear as day Manchester United will win again, they’ll win again no problem. They’ll win a league – probably win the league before Liverpool in my opinion, I’m not being disrespectful.”
“With Liverpool, Salah’s going to leave in the next 12 months – I can see it already. He (Carragher) knows – he won’t say it – but Salah will leave, I can absolutely guarantee it because he will. I can feel it, you can smell it, it’s there.”
Instead, Liverpool went on to win the Premier League the very next season under Jurgen Klopp — and now, under Arne Slot, they are set to lift the title again, equalling Manchester United’s record of 20 top-flight league titles.

Gary Neville was also wrong in his pre-season prediction about Liverpool
Neville continued to underestimate Liverpool with his pre-season predictions.
Ahead of the current season, Neville tipped Liverpool to finish outside the top four, backing Manchester United to finish higher.
He believed the Reds would struggle with Jurgen Klopp’s departure and questioned the quality of their midfield.
The 50-year-old said: “Liverpool, my view would be that the impact of [losing] Klopp will take its toll.
“The evidence of history, there will be some pain at some point this season and it could cost them.
“I really do question whether that Liverpool midfield can stand up over the season. I think Manchester United have got more depth in midfield.”
In reality, Liverpool have thrived under Slot’s leadership, while Manchester United have plummeted to 14th in the table, suffering one of their worst Premier League campaigns ever.
Neville’s misplaced faith in Manchester United and doubts over Liverpool have been exposed once again— as both Salah and the club continue to prove him wrong.
