Report: Club face final hurdle to sign Liverpool player, terms for loan exit agreed
🦹According to the , Preston North End have agreed on terms with Liverpool for a second loan transfer of defender Sepp van den Berg.
The Championship side held successful talks with Jurgen Klopp’s𒈔 Anfield natives last week to discuss a deal for the 19-year-old. Preston now face one final hurdle to get a deal over the line in Van den Berg giving the green light to return.
𓆏Van den Berg had moved to Deepdale on loan on Deadline Day of the January transfer window. He cut out a regular role for himself under Alex Neil and later Frankie McAvoy, but now has other offers.
At least four other Championship sides are interested in signing Van den Berg on loan for next season. The centre-half has the final say on which club he joins in the off-season, too, despite Liverpool’s agreement with Preston.
ཧThe Lilywhites secured first refusal after agreeing to the terms of a second loan spell, providing he agrees to join. McAvoy’s side could finalise the deal by the end of the week should the Dutch defender give the all clear.
ꦦVan den Berg returning to Deepdale for another season could see him reunite with two fellow former teammates. Preston also want a new loan deal for Leicester City’s Daniel Iversen and a permanent move for Stoke’s Liam Lindsay.
Liverpool and Van den Berg should wait for other offers
ℱWhile Liverpool agreed terms with Preston on a second loan for Van den Berg, both should wait for other offers. The defender has interest from other clubs who may emerge as more suitable destinations for the former U19 international.
꧙Van den Berg may have started appearances for Preston, but only two of his outings came at centre-half. Instead, he was moved out of his natural position to feature at right-back and right-midfield.
🌊But other clubs may see Van den Berg more as a signing who would improve the core of their backline. That is where Liverpool wanted him to play in their U23s and where his Anfield future will be. And that is where they should priorities his next loan spell being spent.
