Liverpool to speak with Preston North End over new loan spell for Sepp van den Berg
According to ༺the , Liverpool are set to speak with Preston North End this week over a new loan transfer f𝐆or Sepp van den Berg.
The Championship sid🥀e want to take the teen🌸ager back to Deepdale after he enjoyed a solid spell there last term. Van den Berg joined the Lilywhites in January and started second-tier appearances.
Only two of the Under 19 international’s outings came in his natural central defensive role, however. Instead, he made nine appearanc𒅌es at right-back and featured five times on the right of manager Frankie McAvoy’s midfield line.
Yet Liverpool are willing to agree on another temporary deal for the 19-year-old, and a move could soon be finalised. Van den Berg’s made for the Reds but has not featured under Jurgen Klopp since February 2020.
Preston hope to reach an agreement with Liverpool over the Dutchman’s future soon in order to begin targeting attacking reinforcements. A deal is edging closer to being finalised and could couple his capture by retaininಌg on-loan Leicester goalkeeper Daniel Iversen.
Van den Berg helped the Lilywhites to keep one clean sheet in his outings at centre-back. They also shut out three opponents when he featured at full-back, including defeated plaℱy-off finalists Swansea City.
His role in a clean sheet at home to QPR in February returned praise from former Preston boss Alex Neil. He describedꦿ Van den Berg’✨s display as being . Neil also considered the defender to be his during a poor first-half against Bournemouth in March.
Preston loan good for Liverpool and Van den Berg
Van dan Berg r😼eturning to Preston on loan for next season will be good for the player and Liverpool. The defender has establis🤪hed a role for himself at Deepdale that he can now look to build on. That would not be the case at Anfield, where game time has been limited.
Liverpool wil🎃l likely want assurances from McAvoy that Van den Berg will feature more often at centre-half, however. It is the for the Reds’ U23s and where he impressed at former side PEC Zwolle.
It is not hard to imagine that Liverpool see Van den Berg’s future bein�🌳�g in the heart of the backline. And not at full-back, let alone on the right-hand side of the midfield line. But it is unlikely that the potential hiccup will block a deal, with an agreement already close.
