Liverpool boss Arne Slot wants to sign £35m Champions League star for whom the Reds are his ‘dream club’

Liverpool are doing well this season and remain firmly in contention to win the Premier League title, the Champions League and the League Cup.

Arne Slot is shining in his maiden season at Anfield, building on the great work Jurgen Klopp has carried out at the club over the years.

Better still, Liverpool are doing so despite not having made many signings this season, meaning they could be in a position to go big this summer.

Now, journalist Suleyman Ozturk has claimed that Slot wants to sign a player for whom Liverpool are his “dream club” and who previously held talks with the Reds.

Arne Slot now ‘wants’ David Hancko at Liverpool

The player in question is David Hancko, who has been impressing for Feyenoord since Slot signed him from Sparta Prague in 2022.

Hancko and Slot worked together at Feyenoord for two seasons before the latter’s departure to Liverpool, and the duo enjoyed success by winning the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup.

The Slovakia international is reportedly set for a big-money move after the season, and Slot is said to be keen on a reunion with Hancko at Anfield.

Ozturk has praised Hancko’s performance in Feyenoord’s Champions League victory over AC Milan and revealed that Slot wants to bring him to Liverpool:

“There is a boy who should actually be playing for Atletico or Arsenal,” Ozturk wrote in his column. “That is why you are through [to the last 16].

“If they [other teams] can pick a Feyenoord player, top clubs and top coaches will end up with him. Where can he go?

“Liverpool! Arne Slot wants him of course. Why not Liverpool? You have to aim high; he is that good.”

Why Hancko didn’t join Liverpool last summer

Last summer, Hancko revealed that he discussed a potential reunion with Slot at Liverpool.

The Premier League leaders decided against making a move, however, with Liverpool targeting longer-term additions than the £35million man.

“I was in contact with the coach,” Hancko said. “But [Slot] immediately told me that it was not possible.

“Liverpool have a certain transfer philosophy. Age was one issue, the other was price. Both factors were negative for me.”

Hancko’s wife, Kristyna Pliskova, recently backed up her husband’s explanation as to why Liverpool’s interest went no further.

“Liverpool has been David’s dream club since he was a child. And to be there with coach Arne Slot, whom he admires, would be a real treat,” Pliskova said.

“But, at the same time, we all know that he is not the youngest and not the cheapest.”

Could Slot have changed his mind about Hancko to Liverpool? It remains to be seen whether concrete speculation emerges over the coming months.
