Lewis McGugan hands warning to Nuno Espirito Santo following Nottingham Forest appointment
Nottingham Forest cult hero Lewis McGugan has warned Nuno Espirito Santo that he “has to hit the ground running” at the City Ground.
The 35-year-old Reds👍 fan favourite was speaking on the BBC’s Forest podcast Shut Up and Show More Football, as transcribed on the .
Forest made the decision to sack Steve Cooper this week following a poor run of results, with Nuno🐈 being appointed to the City Ground dugout a day later.
ওThe decision has proven controversial on both fronts. Some fans didn’t want Cooper to go in the first place, and some aren’t pleased about his replacement.

ꦑMcGugan says Nuno has a “tough” challenge ahead of him. Not only does he need to steady the ship in terms of results, but he also needs to win over a fanbase that loved his predecessor.
ಌ“It’s going to be tough [for Nuno],” said the City Ground cult hero. “This is a bit of a unique situation in terms of the connection [Cooper had with fans].
💮“The new manager has to hit the ground running, not only in terms of results for the football club, but also to get the fans on board and get the fans onside.
ღ“Because a lot of that fanbase will be gutted and very upset.”

💃Nuno’s appointment has certainly split the fanbase. Cooper was a popular manager who not only took Forest from the bottom of the Championship to the Premier League within one season, but kept them there last term too.
💜Nuno’s stock was high after his spell with Wolves, but things didn’t work out at Tottenham and Al-Ittihad, so he certainly has to prove himself once again.
⛦Forest’s owners will be hoping that Nuno can replicate at the City Ground what he did at Molineux, that is turn them into an established Premier League mid-table side and perhaps even Europe.
ജThe Reds currently sit 17th in the Premier League table, having won once in 13 Premier League games and taken just eight points in that time.
꧙Forest, who have picked up just one point from their past six matches, are currently five points ahead 18th-placed Luton Town, who have a match in hand.
🐟Forest play Bournemouth at the City Ground on Saturday before heading to Newcastle United on 26 December and then hosting Manchester United on 30 December.
