Leicester fans react as Harry Maguire scores controversial winner for Manchester United in FA Cup clash

Leicester City were controversially knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United in Friday night’s fourth-round encounter at Old Trafford.

𒁃The Foxes took the lead in the 42nd minute when Andre Onana’s save from a Wilfred Ndidi shot came off Bobby De Cordova-Reid and went in.

However, Manchester United🦋 equalised through Joshua Zirkzee on 68 minutes, the Dutchman firing in after Wout Faes blocked Rasmus Hojlund’s effort.

Then, with extra time looming, Bruno Fernandes whipped in a free kick that former Leicester City defender Harry Maguire headed in to break Foxes hearts.

🅺Maguire appeared to be in an offside position when Fernandes connected with the ball, but with no VAR in action at this stage of the competition, the goal was awarded.

Leicester fans made their feelings known after their former player got the controversial stoppage-time winner that knocked the Foxes out of the FA Cup.

Leicester fans not happy with officiating for Harry Maguire goal

𒀰Leicester fans acknowledged that VAR would’ve almost certainly cancelled the goal out in the Premier League and were not happy with the officiating on the night.

ꦑOne fan wrote: “Maguire is a full yard offside when the ball is played. Horrendous decision, absolutely pathetic refereeing.”

💝Another said: “A hard one to take, particularly given how far offside Maguire appeared to be, but we’ve competed well tonight.

꧑“Garnacho coming on and Wilf going off, for understandable reasons, transformed the game.”

🍌The reaction kept coming, with one fan saying: “It just had to be Maguire didn’t it, it just had to be our customary 2 goals conceded again. I hate VAR but tonight it would have aided us.

ꦐ“Man Utd love a stoppage time goal. Another defeat & Arsenal next. Difficult to see where wins are coming from. Daka injured, Vardy left.”

🍬Another one wrote: “I was more onside than Maguire and I’m sat in a boozer in Leicester.”

🀅And another said: “Maguire goal was clearly offside and Justin wasn’t handball either shocking refereeing tonight I hope we put in an official complaint.”

What Ruud van Nistelrooy said about Harry Maguire’s goal

Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy꧋ did not pull any punches when it came to his thoughts on Maguire’s goal.

✅“We were not defeated in Fergie time, we are defeated in offside time,” he told ITV Sport.

🎃“VAR you have in a couple of centimetres, a couple of inches. This was half a metre, clear in line. That’s a hard one to take because the team deserved extra time.

ౠ“It was a very good team performance. Started really well, pressing United. On the ball, very stable. Deserved to go 1-0 up at half time.

♊“We knew there would be some pressure on us in the second half and chances but not even that much.

ꦉ“Decisions like this, at our level, are hard to swallow.”
