Kevin Danso explains the real reason why he rejected Wolves and signed for Tottenham instead
Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Danso rejected Wolves just before he signed for Spurs.
The Austria international was a wanted man in the winter transfer window. He had made a terrific name for himself at Lens in France,🎃 and there was a lot of intere♔st in him.
Tottenham were desperate for a new centre-half in January, and they were linked with a whole host of names. The likes of Fikayo Tomori even rejected Spurs when they tried to sign him.
However, in the final days of the window, Ange Postecoglou managed to hijack Wolves’ deal to sign Danso from Lens.
The defender has now expla✨ined why 🌠he chose to join Spurs.
Kevin Danso’s reason for rejecting Wolves and joining Tottenham
Wolves really wanted to sign Danso during the winter transfer window.
🎉The Wanderers were on the mark🍸et for a new central defender, and the Austrian was viewed as the perfect player by Vitor Pereira.
Wolves had an initial bid rejected for Danso, but all signs pointed to﷽wards an agreement. Pereira’s side were on the verge of getting h✱im too.
However, Wolves were left furious after seeing Tottenham hijacജk the deal to sign Danso. The 26-year-old꧒ chose Spurs🔯, and he has now explained why.
In an interview w⛄it🌞h , Danso was asked about nearly signing for Wolves. He replied: “I’m here now and I try not to think too much about what happened in the past.
“I cཧan’t change that. I can’t do much about that.
“I think when a club like ൲Spurs comes knocking, it’s something that I don’t think a lot of people would turn down. Certainly not me. That’s why I am here today.”
T🅰hen, Danso was asked if European football played a factor. He ꦫsaid: “Yeah, 100 per cent. I think Spurs is a big club and we have the chance to play in Europe. That is where Spurs belong.
“That is what we want to achieve every season, to continue adding to the history, hopefully with some trophies — that is what we are setting out to do. It sta❀rts tomorrow (Thursday) by coming out and trying to win the game (vs AZ Alkmaar).”
Why Tottenham were initially hesitant to sign Danso
Tottenh💦am’s interest in D﷽anso didn’t just emerge in the final days of the window.
Spurs had﷽ an eye on the Austrian defender from the start of January, and they were keen to sign him right after the window opened at thꩲe turn of the year.
However, Danso’s €30 million+ (£25m+) pri💟ce tag put Tottenham off at the time.
Then, after Radu Dragusin’s injuꦬry, Spurs explored the🥃 move again and found out that the defender could be signed on an initial loan with an obligation to make the move permanent for €25 million (£20.9m).
Daniel Levy was happy with those terms and immediately sanctione🎃d the deal to sign him.
Danso has been at Tottenham for over a month now, and Spurs fans will all ag🃏ree that h♈e has been a fantastic signing.
