Kasper Schmeichel names the £12m Newcastle player he used to always worry about facing

Kasper Schmeichel has done it all in football.

From winning the Premier League with Leicester City to playing in League Two with Notts County, Schmeichel has had a rollercoaster of a career.

🎃The Dane has played against the best of the best during his time at the top-level from the Premier League to the World Cup.

🐈However, speaking on Ben Foster’s Podcast, Schmeichel has made an interesting claim about one player he always used to fear playing against.

Indeed, the goalkeeper says that one player he always used to fear was actually Jonjo Shelvey, particularly when he was at Newcastle.

🦂The goalkeeper spoke about the players he would most fear.

♋Interestingly, Schmeichel wasn’t too scared of facing a lot of strikers, but he did fear the man as he knew he would often shoot from long range when he was at Newcastle.

Schmeichel was a Newcastle target💝 once upon a time, so he could’ve been teammates with Shelvey at St James’ Park.

ജ“Is there any one player you played against where you are just on high alert, whenever they have the ball you’re just thinking ‘my god he’s on the ball.’”

꧂“There are played you know that will take chances particularly if you were off your line or something and they’ll see it, and then in the Premier League every striker is very good,” Schmeichel said.

🐼“You know, I remember particularly when we played Newcastle, Jonjo Shelvey if he won the ball on the halfway line he would try it, you know, he will have a go at that. Charlie Adam was another one.”

✃Schmeichel is right, Shelvey had a knack for scoring long-range goals.

♚Indeed, the midfielder famously once scored from almost the halfway line for Swansea.

♐However, Schmeichel didn’t necessarily need to worry so much about Shelvey.

♉The midfielder’s record against Schmeichel isn’t all that impressive. In fact, he’s only ever scored one goal against the Celtic ace.

🐼Shelvey does have a remarkable record when it comes to beating Schmeichel, but scoring past the former Leicester star wasn’t necessarily his forte.

Shelvey is a great technical playerܫ, and that makes him a threat from almost anywhere on the pitch, but he didn’t showcase his goalscoring ability all that often when he played against Schmeichel.
