John Barnes has suggested Liverpool need a player like Chelsea outcast
John Barnes has told Premier League Daily – – that♔ Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp need a 🌳midfielder in the mould of Chelsea outcast Danny Drinkwater to maintain their status as a title-challenging team.
The Reds are just a couple of wins away from winning their first Premier League title in𒅌 30 years. A disappointing 0-0 draw against Everton will hardly put a dent in their aim of ⛦finally lifting the trophy.
Drinkwater, 30, won the Premier League with Leicester City in 2015-16 but has since seen his career go downhill. Si🅺nce moving to Chelsea in 2017, Drinkwater has only played 23 times – going on loan to Burnley and now Villa.
The three-time England international has only managed four Villa appearances since joining on loan. But Barnes r🅰eckons the £35million () Chelsea signing would be a good addition – though surprising – for Liverpool.

“You look at a player who can come and fit into our midfield where Man City would go, ‘no, he’s not for us because of his ‘t♉echnical’ ability’ but he can fit into what Liverpool want,”
“If Jurgen Klopp stays, and he has this template, there are lots of players out there. I’m looking at Leicester when they had Danny Drinkwater, players who people might not think are great players, they could fit into what Liv𒁃erpool want and still make Liverpool be one of the best team.”
TBR’s view – Liverpool can obviously do better than Drinkwater
But Barnes is right, in some degree. Liverpool do not need the technically-gifted midfielders that Manchester City boast, but require the kind of workhorsesꦆ that have seen James Milner and Jordan Henderso♐n thrive.
Drinkwater – during his time at Leicester – was certainly that. A box-to-b🌟ox midfielder, the former Manchester Un💫ited star was renowned for his lung-busting stamina and his excellent passing.
Far from his best these days, Drinkwater is below Liverpool’s calibre of player. But a ♊player in his mould is𓆏 ideal for Liverpool.
