John Achterberg says £67m Liverpool player has been seriously hard done by
Liverpool have been one of the best teams in the world for a long time now, and many of their players have been given plenty of credit during this time.
Indeed, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijkᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚ are both PFA Player of the Year winners, while Van Dijk and Sadio Mane have been on the Ballon d’Or podium.
However, according to John Achterberg, speaking on the , there’s one Liverpool♑ player who doesn’t quite get the credit he deserves.
Indeed, according to the former Liverpool goalkeeping coach, Alisson Becker deserves more credit.
💎Achterberg aired a gripe he has about Alisson not being recognised in the Yashin Trophy voting, claiming that whoever votes for that award mustn’t have a clue about goalkeeping.

Alisson has been disrespected
꧟Achterberg shared his verdict on the man not receiving the Yashin Trophy since 2019.
♐“He has been the best in the world really for the last few years. I can say that now because I’m not his coach. It’s a bit disrespectful that he hasn’t been involved in the last few years in the Yashin Trophy,” Achterberg said.
✅“I know it’s going on the Champions League, but in that first year he was in the Champions League and he wasn’t in the top 10. I don’t know who is in charge there, but they don’t have a clue about goalkeeping, because it’s really disrespectful that he’s not in the top five, but that’s for other people to decide.”
Alisson has been unlucky
💎Achterberg says Alisson deserves more credit in the Yashin Trophy voting, but the reality is that he’s been very unlucky in recent years.
෴These awards can often be short-sighted, and that’s what we have seen recently.
💖Gianluigi Donnarumma won the award in 2021 due to his heroics at the Euros, Thibaut Courtois was the winner in 2022 after a Man of the Match performance in the Champions League final, while Emi Martinez won the award off the back of an incredible World Cup.
🍸The sad reality is that Alisson hasn’t had a standout run to a trophy in the same way those goalkeepers have in recent years, and that means that he’s not going to win these types of individual honours.
♍Alisson is still regarded as one of the best in the world, despite his lack of individual awards.
