Joe Cole believes Spurs were right to bring in former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho
Former Chelsea midfielder, Joe Cole, has spoken out in support of Jose Mourinho, insisting he can still be a success at Spurs.
The Portuguese manager took over the reins at Spurs back in November. However, since then, Spurs have dropped out of the race for the top four with a number of disjointed performances along the way.

But after replacing Mauricio Pochettino in the managerial hot-seat, former Mourinho player Cole insisted his former boss can get things right in north London.
“Jose has gone into a difficult situation,” Cole
“In the media in particular there is a lot of anti-Jose, people who are very quick to jump on Jose’s back, especially for someone who has been as successful as him.”
Cole was a key player for Mourinho in a successful spell at Chelsea. The former West Ham man helped Mourinho to multiple league titles with the Blues.
And the former England man believes Mourinho needs time and players, as well as backing from Daniel Levy, to get things right.
“It’s like turning a cruise ship, you can’t just turn it on a sixpence, it takes time. He needs time, he needs to bring the right players in,” Cole .
“I think the relationship with Daniel Levy is important, if Levy gets him the players he wants and gives him time I think it will be a success for him.”

Nobody is doubting Jose Mourinho as one of the best managers around. The problem is that during his final days at Man United and now with Spurs, he seems to exude negativity.

This needs to change. Some of his players look unhappy and don’t look interested.
Of course, Cole is right in that he needs the backing of Daniel Levy. But he also needs to manage the squad well and get the best out of them.
Next season will be big for Jose Mourinho. If he gets off to a good start, then Spurs might well be successful. If they struggle, then it could be the end before it even got properly started for the former Porto man.
