Jamie Carragher says who would win if Tottenham played Man Utd in the Europa League final

Tottenham and Manchester United have both had truly terrible seasons, but, remarkably, they do both still have something to play for.

Indeed, Spurs and United are both semi-finalists in the Europa League, and victory in this competition would secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.

Despite both being in the bottom-half of the Premier League, Tottenham and Manchester United are both fancied in the Europa League.

Joe Cole thinks Tottenham will win the Europa League, while Tim Sherwood also fancies Spurs’ chances in this competition.

However, speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has made an interesting prediction about how this tournament will pan out.

Jamie Carragher makes Europa League prediction

Carragher says that he can see Tottenham getting to the Europa League final, but he thinks they will lose at that stage no matter what.

Carragher says he can’t see Spurs beating Athletic Club in their own stadium, while he also reckons Manchester United would beat Spurs due to the club’s history and ability to find a win from nowhere.

“I mean, I can’t see Tottenham winning the trophy just for the fact, I can see you getting to the final, but I can’t see you beating Bilbao in their own stadium,” Carragher said.

“I think that’d be tough for anybody.

“There’s no way Tottenham beat Man United in a European final, no chance, history, mentality, they’re just a club who find a way to win. Man United have an ability to win games they shouldn’t.”

Manchester United’s cup final record compared to Tottenham

Jamie Carragher says he fancies Manchester United to beat Tottenham in this cup final due to their history, but, interestingly, the numbers are somewhat in Spurs’ favour here.

Indeed, while Manchester United are way more successful than Tottenham, when it comes to their record in cup finals, Spurs actually have a better record than United.

Tottenham have won 68% of their cup final appearances, compared to just 60% for United.

Of course, United have won more over the years, but in terms of win percentage on the big stages, Spurs are better than United – albeit they haven’t won a cup final in almost 20 years.

With both teams performing so terribly this season, it’s truly difficult to predict
