Jamie Carragher says role Arne Slot handed to Liverpool star v West Ham, he’d ‘never’ seen before

Liverpool cruised to a comfortable 5-1 win over West Ham United in the League Cup on Wednesday night at Anfield.

As expected, Arne Slot made wholesale changes to his Liverpool side, with his bigಌ guns, such as Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz, Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai 🌳on the bench.

But Liverpool ran all over West Ham, with Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo netting braces, including Salah co♏ming off the bench and scoring.

Even though West Ham opened the scoring and were causing huge problems at 2-1 and 3-1, when Edson Alvarez was shown a second yellow card, it was game set and match ༒for the home team.

Aside from Liverpool’s defeat to Nottingham Forest, it has bee꧂n nothing but plus signs for the Reds under their new manager.

There have been many early risers under Slot, including the change in fortune of Ryan Gravenberch because he is looking like a diffꦿerent player under his fellow countryman.

But another player hoping to go down that road is Jota, who wasn’t always a regulꦿar starter under Klopp and also had to deal wi🧔th several injury problems.

The Portugal internati🌃onal has started every game bar one 🍃under Slot and Jamie Carragher noticed something different about the player against the Hammers.

Carragher praised Jota for getting Liverpool back into the game and being ‘really good’, but it was the role he was deployed wi♚th that surprised him.

Fans would have seen over thꦐe years, the versatile forward playing either out on the left or down the middle.

But Carragher touched upon Jota playing a ‘deeper role’ for Liverpool and how he had ‘never seen him b🍎efore’ in such a po𒅌sition, as he told (25/09/24 at 8:30 pm).

Diogo Jota’s role for Liverpool against West Ham

“He’s done really good, Jota, in this deeper role, I have nev💖er seen him in before,” said Carragher.

“What he has done is, sometimes the Carabao Cup ꧋games could be a little stale and flat, but whenever he seems to be on the ball or in possession, he raises the pace. You see it with the Liverpool goal (opening strike). The first time they really went with real intensity going forward and they get their just rewards.”

Can Arne Slot win a trophy with Liverpool?

Not many were expect🐻ing Slot to challenge for the Premier Leagဣue title because he has just come through the doors.

But given the 🐼start the team has 🦋made, it is resulting in some changing their minds about what he can produce in his debut campaign.

Whilst you don’t expect Liverpool to become champions of England, even though Rodri’s injury for Manchester City has made things interesting, you feel it’s very realistic🃏 for thos♊e on Merseyside to win the League Cup or the FA Cup.

This squad of players have 𒆙experience with that and, after all, they are defending the🦩 EFL Cup, so if you add a trophy like that to the cabinet and a top-four finish, then it would be a brilliant start from Slot.
