Jamie Carragher says ‘great’ Liverpool player should be on the bench a lot more next season

Liverpool have been almost flawless for most of this season.

Yes, there have been some bumps in the road in the cup competitions, but, for the most part, in the Premier League, the Reds have been almost punch perfect, losing just twice all season.

However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t room for improvement.

Indeed, certain Liverpool players have been criticised at times this season, and the Reds do need some upgrades this summer.

Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Liverpool after another season where Nunez has come under fire for his profligacy.

Meanwhile, Andy Robertson has been criticised this season, and speaking on It’s Called Soccer, Jamie Carragher has been discussing the Scot and the role he should have next season.

Jamie Carragher says Andy Robertson should be backup next season

Carragher shared his verdict on Robertson and the role he should have next season.

The pundit called for Liverpool to sign a new left-back, claiming that Robertson should be relegated to a backup role next season.

“But there are still areas in that squad that needs sort of improving. I think left back is one. I think Andy Robertson has been one of the great left backs for Liverpool.

I think needs help there. I maybe could play the role as the sort of the backup, which would still be playing 20, 25 games a season. But I think probably bringing in a first choice left back.”

Which left-back could Liverpool sign?

Carragher wants Liverpool to sign a new left-back and for Robertson to, largely, be relegated to the bench.

That isn’t a bad idea considering the fact that Robertson has been poor at times this season.

However, if Liverpool are to follow through with this idea, they’ll have to find a new left-back.

Luckily, the Reds are already assessing a few options.

Milos Kerkez has been linked to Liverpool recently, while Antonee Robinson is on Liverpool’s radar too.

Interestingly, speaking on the Premier League YouTube channel, Carragher said that Robinson has been better than Kerkez this season.

“I think Kerkez and Robinson from Fulham have been the two best left-backs in the Premier League this season. Earlier this season I went for Robinson, just, but I think it’s a toss up,” Carragher said.

It’s a good time to be looking for a left-back, and Liverpool could be set to make an exciting signing this summer.
