Jamie Carragher explains whether he thinks Liverpool should have signed Man United star Leny Yoro

Liverpool have missed out on a number of transfer targets this summer, with Martin Zubimendi being the most recent failed transfer saga.

However, before the Zubimendi story came about, Liverpool were in for a new centre-back.

Indeed, Leny Yoro was said to be a key transfer target♑ for the Reds heading into this summer, but, unfortunately, the Frenchman ended up at Manchester United instead.

🌠Speaking on the , Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s failed pursuit of Yoro, and he says that he can completely understand why the Reds didn’t spend big money on the Manchester United man.

Jamie Carragher’s verdict on Liverpool missing out on Leny Yoro

🍎Carragher shared his verdict on Liverpool missing out on Yoro.

🦂“It doesn’t bother me at all. I’m glad we don’t buy players left, right and centre. I don’t want us to be signing everyone. I think we need two or three players,” Carragher said.

𝓀“The Yoro one I completely understand it. Why would you pay £50-60m for a young centre-back when you have Jarrell who has cost us nothing? Do I think we need a centre-back? Yes, but I don’t think we need a project spending that type of money.”

Leny Yoro move wouldn’t have made sense

🍃Carragher is right in a lot of ways, Yoro isn’t the type of player Liverpool need.

🍌The defender is too young and too inexperienced to make a serious impression in this Liverpool side.

🐓Yes, the Reds don’t have the best depth at the back, but they do still have four quality options.

💎Yoro could, realistically, have arrived as Liverpool’s fifth-choice defender this summer, and while he has a huge future ahead of him, you don’t pay this sort of money for a player who’s barely going to play.

🧸Liverpool still need a new defender, but don’t expect a huge-money move for an unproven teenager.
