James Ward-Prowse says Julen Lopetegui is doing something very exciting in West Ham training

West Ham United midfielder James Ward-Prowse has now been lauding the impact of new manager Julen Lopetegui in east London.

Ward-Prowse arrived at West Ham under David Moyes’ stewardship, a signing the former manager was thought to have personally pushed for.

All in all, it was a positive first season for Ward-Prowse at the club, who will still want to take his game further under Lopetegui.

The England international made 52 appearances for Moyes in his debut season at the club, scoring seven goals and contributing 12 assists.

And Lopetegui will surely be excited to utilise Ward-Prowse’s expertise on set-pieces, which is not the only facet of the midfielder’s game to be celebrated.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the Spaniard plans to use Ward-Prowse in his midfield, and to see whether he ever envisions the former Southampton man in a more advanced role.

That being said, when speaking in an interview with , Ward-Prowse has provided a glowing report of life under his new manager thus far.

Ward-Prowse suggests that Lopetegui has lifted the levels since Moyes at West Ham

The Englishman said that West Ham’s players will learn a ton from Lopetegui, who he seems to suggest has raised the level of training they did under Moyes last term.

Ward-Prowse said: “I’ve really enjoyed working under the new manager. He’s shown a modern and exciting way of playing, which suits my game.

“It feels like I’m going to fit right in with him. The gaffer has managed some top teams and has fantastic experience. As a group, we’ll learn a lot from him.

“There’s a real meaning and a purpose to his sessions. It drills into the games and I’m really enjoying the work ethic and the feeling around the club.”

Of course, West Ham’s prospects this season could ultimately still hinge on their ability to recruit a new striker before the window closes.

Jhon Duran was said to be close to joining West Ham, but any deal for the striker still hasn’t quite got over the line – a frustrating stalemate.

And given that Noussari Mazaroui recently rejected a move to West Ham, fans in east London will want to see a determined reaction from the club.
