Jake Cooper explains why he chose to ignore Rangers interest

as saying that he chose to reject a move to Rangers last summer because he is settled with the Lions, after signing a 🦋new contract at the Den.

The 24-year-old has been immense for Millwall this season. Renowned for his power and impeccable aerial ability, the former Reading cen🌠tre-back has starred in the Lions’ excellent FA Cup run.

Making 42 appearances in all competitions, Cooper has even posed a threat in the oꦛpposition box. He has scored four goals and created another seven. He is consid🦩ered one of the Championship’s best defenders.

Last summer, that Rangers had made an offer of £3million for Cooper🐓’s signature. A move failed to materialise with Cooper preferring Millwall, and he explained why.

“It was a massive confidence boost to see the all the news with (Steve) Gerrard and a huge c𓄧lub like Rangers, but it didn’t turn my head,”

“It was a great thing for me and big for my family, but I signed my contract here because I’m settled and I’m happy. It was good to have interest in the summer, but it’s finished, the Clꦆub made it clear what they wanted.”

TBR’s view

Cooper would have been an immense signi﷽ng. Rangers have struggled at centre-back throughou😼t the campaign, with Gerrard only settling on his best combination at the back in recent weeks.

That is currently Cღonnor Goldson and Joe Worrall. But he used Nikola Katic to begin with and a spell using veteran Gareth McAuley. All four have made mistakes along the way.

This summer, Gerrard is likely 💖to want a new central defender and Cooper would certainly boost the Teddy Bears.
