‘Immediately pessimistic’: Tottenham have realised straight away they can’t sign £35m player – journalist
Jean-Clair Todibo has been said to be one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets this month.
It’s been reported that Spurs are doing all they can to try to sign Todibo, but, by the sounds of it, their best efforts still won’t be enough.
Indeed, speaking on , Ben Jacobs has provided an update on Todibo’s situation, and he says that while Spurs have started talks about signing the centre-half, they were immediately pessimistic about their chances of getting this deal done.
Jacobs says that Spurs have now pretty much moved on from Todibo due to the fact that Nice have been steadfast in their view that he is, quite simply, not for sale this month.

Spurs immediately pessimistic over Todibo deal
Jacobs shared what he’s heard about the player.
“I reiterate what I said on the Spurs front. For Spurs, Todibo was a clear target, they started talks and they were immediately pessimistic, that’s why they’ve moved on. The reason for that isn’t some plot by Ratcliffe to come in at Man United and then sell the player to Manchester United, it’s because Nice simply don’t want to sell,” Jacobs said.
Backup already lined up
Tottenham may have been immediately knocked back for Todibo, but it sounds as though they’ve wasted no time in getting a backup option lined up.
Indeed, by the sounds of it Radu Dragusin is now Tottenham’s top centre-back target and personal terms are said to have already been agreed on that one.
In all honesty, Todibo would probably have been a better option than Dragusin, but with Spurs lacking so much depth at centre-half right now, the most important thing is arguably getting a body through the door as soon as possible.
Todibo won’t be leaving Nice this month by the sounds of it, but with so many clubs interested, we wouldn’t be shocked if a Premier League move was on the cards this summer.
