I saw £25m Tottenham player prove Vincent Kompany right with his superb performance vs Everton
Tottenham Hotspur certainly seemed determined to correct the wrongs of their second half performance last Friday when facing Everton in north London.
Ange Postecoglou chose a bold team, effectively using Yves Bissouma as a single pivot behind five Tottenham attackers.
Wilson Odobert♈ was handed his Spurs debut and Son Heung-min was returned to his role as a striker, a position he perhaps thought was behind him after Dominic Solanke’s arrival.
ꦉBut without the Englishman, Postecoglou rang the changes, and it worked.
ඣDejan Kulusevski produced a superb moment of close dribbling to set up Bissouma for his opener, after that it was a fairly straightforward afternoon for Spurs.
🍸And although his performance slightly faded as the game went on, a lot of Tottenham fans will be going home excited about Odobert’s potential and future in north London.
🍬Odobert was replaced in the 66th to a strong ovation, and it was well deserved.
Wilson Odobert proved that Tottenham were right to take a risk on him this summer
💯When Tottenham paid Burnley for Odobert this summer, there were a few eyebrows raised.
꧙The Frenchman is evidently a big talent, but was often questioned for his decision-making during his debut season in the Premier League.

ꩵHowever, Vincent Kompany, who was managing Odobert during that season at Burnley, was incredibly excited about Odobert’s potential.
♊And whilst he didn’t want to place too much pressure on the winger, he thought he had a big future ahead.
🌟Speaking via , Kompany said: “I will almost refrain from what I really think about him, because at this moment in time I don’t think people realise how good he is.
𝕴“He’s playing in a team that is playing for survival, but the things he’s able to do — whether it’s defending or whether it’s attacking… like I said, I will refrain from what I really think because I don’t want to jinx it; I don’t want to create a situation where the expectations become too big for him too soon.”
𓃲And given his performance against Everton, it’s easy to see why Kompany was so optimistic.
Dominic Solanke may struggle to get back into this Tottenham team
🃏Through no fault of his own, Solanke may actually find it difficult to get back into this Spurs side when he returns to full fitness.
🎃Tottenham play Newcastle United away from home next and Postecoglou may be tempted to keep a similar line up.
ꦿThis set-up would work with Son on the left and Solanke playing centrally, but it would seem harsh to drop Odobert after his performance.
ꦿHe’s not the finished article by any means, he almost slipped Everton in with a stray pass at one point, but there’s evidently a ton of potential there – a horrible winger to face one versus one.
That being said, it’s not quite all good news for Postecoglou, as one of ꧅Tottenham’s transfer targets just suffered a significant injury.
