‘I just felt’… Brendan Rodgers explains why ‘wonderful’ 22-year-old was dropped from Celtic’s squad vs St Mirren

Brendan Rodgers has explained why he left Celtic winger, Liel Abada out of the squad for today’s Scottish Cup trip to St Mirren.

The Celtic boss went with a surprise team selection that consisted of playing Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah up front this afternoon.

In a season-first, the two strikers combined well for Kyogo’s opener but it was the exclusion of Liel Abadaඣ that would have caught most Celtic fans’ attention.

ꦏThe Hoops boss moved to clear up his reasons for leaving the Israeli winger out of the squad entirely and said that Abada was not in the right frame of mind

🔯Rodgers said [], “He wasn’t in the right frame of mind.

🐼“I’ve spoken a lot to Liel and it has been a challenging time for him.

♉“I just felt when he came into the game the other night, it just wasn’t him.

🍬“So we gave him this chance to have a few days and clear his mind. I’ll have a chat with him again next week and see where he’s at.”

TBR Celtic told this morning how ꦚRodgers admitted that Abada was currently strugglingཧ at Celtic and is finding it hard to cope with off-field issues.

The 22-year-old has been ‘wonderful‘ for Celtic over the past two seasons but under Rodgers, Abada has struggled to get his season started after he picked up a serious injury on international duty.

💯Abada has made eleven appearances in the green and white Hoops this season scoring one and creating two for Rodgers’ side.

🐻Now fully fit, the Celtic fans will be hoping that Abada will be back sooner rather than later as the winger has proven since he joined the Glasgow giants just how important he can be in helping to deliver success to the Parkhead club.
