Heung-min Son confirms what he’ll do with Fraser Forster after his errors in Tottenham’s win over Man United

Tottenham Hotspur secured a 4-3 win against Manchester United in what turned out to be a Carabao Cup clash for the ages in North London.

Ange Postecoglou’s side are now in the semifinals and will face holders Liverpool in a two-legged tie next year, while Arsenal take on Newcastle United in the other semifinal tie.

Tottenham had a three-goal lead in the second half, but an error-strewn display from Fraser Forster meant the visitors clawed their way back into the game.

And Son Heung-min had made a rather hilarious claim about the experienced goalkeeper after what turned out to be an eventful night for him.

Forster dwelled on the ball too much and was caught napping as second-half substitute Joshua Zirkzee tapped the ball in from close range to make it 3-1 for Manchester United.

Minutes later, the 36-year-old was in the thick of the action again, as Amad Diallo closed him down and the ball landed up in the back of the net as he tried to clear it away from danger.

Forster’s errors didn’t come back to haunt Tottenham as a late goal from Son – which landed up in the back of the net directly from a corner – put the game beyond reasonable doubt.

Despite his teammate’s error-strewn display, Son defended Forster, who actually made a fantastic save to deny Zirkzee in the second half.

“To be fair, I don’t think it’s his mistake,” said Son on CBS after the game.

“I mean how many times did he save us this season? I can’t even count. He’s been unbelievable and outstanding even today before we conceded the goal, he made a couple of good saves.

“He’s an experienced player so we move on together. I’m going to give him a little cuddle!”

What did Postecoglou say about Forster’s display?

With Guglielmo Vicario out for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury, Forster is likely to play a big role this season.

However, Tottenham are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper as Forster’s deal expires next summer, although they will resist the temptation of signing someone in that position in January.

After the game against Manchester United, Postecoglou backed Forster despite his mistakes, adding that the goalkeeper actually did well with the ball at his feet before conceding two avoidable goals.

“He’s disappointed as well because he was outstanding for us [before],” Postecoglou said in his press conference after the game. He didn’t have a lot to do before then. And even in the first half, I thought he was really good with his feet.

“The first one probably affected his confidence a little bit. He lost a bit of belief, and that second one just compounded it.

“But he’s a big boy and is another one that’s stood up for us big-time in this period. I can’t speak highly enough of him.”
