‘He’s an excellent player’… Joe Hart is a huge fan of 23-year-old Celtic teammate
Celtic goalkeeper, Joe Hart, has been taking media duties over the past 24 hours where he was speaking about his contract situation and his teammates.
The 36-year-old veteran has already spoken out about his current contract situation. And whilst Hart remains fairly relaxed about it, he also took the time to praise teammate, Matt O’Riley.
The Danish international has been attracting the attention of Athletico Madrid recently and whilst Hart says he’s not surprised, the £1m signing from Spurs admits he loves playing alongside the 23-year-old.
Hart said [ print edition ], “That’s for Matt to talk about, I can only support him as a team-mate.
“He is an excellent player and someone I love playing with and being a part of from a social point of view. When you play at the levels he’s at people are going to be interested.
“Such is life. But he shows his commitment every single day to what we’re trying to do and long may that continue.”
O’Riley’s rise to stardom certainly has been rapid since he joined Celtic in January 2022. A relatively unknown midfielder, the 23-year-old burst onto the scene with an incredible debut in the 2-1 Tynecastle win over Hearts.
Since then O’Riley has been one of Celtic’s best players. In 102 appearances for Celtic, the Danish international has scored 18 goals and created 28 assists. []
Quite an astonishing return from a central midfielder and this season he has just gotten better and better under Brendan Rodgers.
With ten goals to his name, O’Riley is Celtic’s top goalscorer this season in the SPFL and also Rodgers second best player at assists with seven, just two behind Luis Palma.
His performances in the Champions League have earned him international recognition and attracted the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs.
No doubt O’Riley still has his best years ahead of him and the Celtic supporters will be delighted that he has signed up with the club until 2028.
