‘He’s a very good player’… Forest boss Nuno praises £53m Man United star after last night’s game

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has now been praising a Manchester United player following last night’s tie.

Although it wasn’t necessarily the best display United will deliver this season, Erik ten Hag’s side did get the job done.

Bruno Fernandes showed his class late on with an excellent delivery, and Casemiro perhaps proved he’s got the best eye for a goal besides Rasmus Hojlund at the club right now.

Forest were diligent in their work, and will probably feel hard done by to be dumped out of the cup so late on.

But ultimately the likes of Andre Onana stood big for United, who delivered a very timely reminder of his quality.

That being said, Ten Hag wasn’t happy with the treatment of his captain, Bruno Fernandes, during the game.

The Dutchman thought Bruno was targeted by the Forest players, who he considered to be repeatedly fouling the midfielder.

And when asked to comment on the situation, Forest boss Nuno preferred to praise the United captain, and denied there had been a clever game plan.

Nuno was asked if his Forest side targeted the United midfielder, who was staunchly defended by Ten Hag after the game.

Speaking via the , the Forest boss replied: “I don’t think so, I didn’t see what Erik saw.”

“He [Fernandes] is a very good player. He needs to be controlled. We did that in a fair way.”

Of course, Fernandes’ display against Fulham on the weekend did cause a lot of controversy, with some fans fed up with the theatrical part of his game.

But it’s clear that Ten Hag didn’t see it that way, and was actually quite angered by those claims.

He said after last night’s game: “I see social media criticising him. It is pathetic. He had a serious injury but he continued to play on Saturday and then also he fought to be part of this game.

“He has a very high pain threshold and last year, he did something similar against Spurs and I think in the semi-final (against Brighton). It shows his leadership.”

Definitely one that will divide opinion.

But either way, Bruno Fernandes will have to take the compliment from this special treatment at United, as Nuno’s Forest side won’t be the last to test the £53m midfielder.

All that being said, one journalist has been detailing the fractured relationship between Ten Hag and Marcus Rashford.
