‘He is huge’… Alasdair Gold stunned by how big 22-year-old Tottenham player is after meeting him in person

When you watch football on TV or from the stands it’s hard to really get a gauge of just how freakishly athletic some of these players are.

Indeed, the next time you lambaste a player for not running fast enough or showing enough strength, just remember that these are some of the most elite athletes on the planet, and, compared to the rest of us, they’re almost a different species.

Tottenham Hotspur have some truly incredible athletes in their squad right now, and there may be nobody who quite matches Micky van de Ven on that front.

Speaking on the , Alasdair Gold has been discussing Van de Ven after he interviewed him after the Everton game at the weekend, and the journalist noted just how big the defender actually is after standing face to face with him in person.

Van de Ven is massive

Gold spoke about the defender and his size.

“I grabbed him afterwards in the mixed zone, at Goodison Park they can’t escape you, which is helpful, but he is huge. I’m 6 foot, I’m not a tiny guy, but he was towering above me, I thought he would pat me on the head at one point. He had his hood up, and he looked like some kind of superhero or something,” Gold said.

Scary

Van de Ven has to be one of the most scary athletes in English football right now.

Not only is he a behemoth of a man as Gold says, he’s also genuinely the fastest player in the Premier League.

Indeed, Van de Ven has clocked a higher top speed than any other player in the league this season, and when you pair that with his immense size and strength he has, you have a truly dominant centre-back who is one of the best in the Premier League.
