‘Going to happen’… Defender says he was once convinced his £40m teammate was going to join Arsenal

Cast your mind back to 2016 and you’ll remember that summer was dominated by transfer rumours regarding Leicester City’s title winners.

The Foxes’ star players were all being linked with huge moves away from the King Power St🦹adium, but the only player who actually got a move was N’Gol𓃲o Kante who headed to Chelsea.

However, it wasn’t for the lack of trying from these big clubs, and, at the time, Arsenal were said to be weighing up a move for Jamie Vardy.

Speaking on , Danny Simpson has been discussing the rumours that surrounded Vardy at that time, and he says that he was convinced the striker was going to join Arsenal that summer.

Simpson thought Vardy was going to Arsenal

Simpson spoke about Vardy and this move.

“When those guys were getting linked with teams, because I know that Wenger was close with both Vardy and Ka🔴nte, we🍌re you boys like ‘we’re not recovering from that’?” Simpson was asked.

“Yeah, the Vards one, I felt it was going to happen, but obviously it was like nah man you can’t leave. It di💛dn’t happ♎en, and we were buzzing init,” Simpson said.

Missed out

Arsenal certainly lived to r💯egret not getting this deal don⭕e.

Vardy was far from a one season wonder at Leicester, he ♐went on to win a Golden Boot a few years later, and with a bit more luck, he’d have taken the Foxes to the Champions League on numerous occasions.

Arsenal needed a goalscorer ar🥃ound that time as Alexandre Lacazette didn’t quite hit the heights expected of him, and, in hindsight, it has to be s🅷aid that Vardy would’ve been perfect for the Gunners.

Arsenal really missed out here, and if they could turn back time, perhaps theyꦍ’d push harder on this deal rather than switching t♛heir attentions to Lacazette.
