Gary Lineker shares his Max Dowman verdict after watching him for Arsenal in pre-season

Amid a flurry of new signings at Arsenal this summer, young Hale End star Max Dowman has also been stealing a lot of the attention in pre-season.

Following his brilliance for Arsenal’s academy sides, Mikel Arteta decided to take Max Dowman and a host of other promising youngsters on the club’s pre-season tour of Asia.

And Dowman has certainly not wasted that opportunity — he’s looked every bit as impressive as the likes of Martin Odegaard and Ethan Nwaneri.

Both Odegaard and Nwaneri play in the number 10 role that Dowman will hope to one day make his own, and it’s clear that Arsenal are well-set in that regard for many years to come.

That being said, Dowman’s minutes in pre-season have now caught the eye of pundit Gary Lineker, who was seriously impressed with what he saw in Asia.

Gary Lineker thinks Max Dowman already looks incredible for Arsenal

Speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Lineker understood why ‘everyone’ was now talking about Dowman’s rich potential, even if he is only 15-years-old.

Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have recently graduated from the Hale End academy to the Arsenal first team.

And once Dowman spends another year or so with the U21s, he will soon become a household name for Arsenal fans, and perhaps even for those who follow England.

Sharing his excitement, Lineker said: “But I’ll tell you who looks exciting, I mean, everyone is talking about this 15-year-old boy, Max Dowman.

“I mean, he’s been featuring in some of the friendlies, I saw him playing the game against your lot, Alan, it was Newcastle, wasn’t it?

“I mean, boy, oh boy, he was doing some amazing stuff. He looks like a man already and he’s got so much talent.

“He beats people effortlessly and he can finish and he looks incredibly confident.”

Marli Salmon can follow Max Dowman to Arsenal’s first team

As mentioned, Dowman wasn’t the only talented Hale End youngster who travelled with Arsenal in pre-season.

15-year-old Marli Salmon also got a chance to show his ability and potential to Arsenal supporters in Asia, an opportunity he definitely took.

Salmon has already been compared to William Saliba given his confidence on the ball at such an early age.

And it has been some time since Arsenal had a centre-back emerge from their academy.

Lewis-Skelly has settled as a left-back for now, but the Hale End set-up has been more famous for the attacking talent it’s produced in recent years.

But perhaps with Per Mertesacker at the helm of the academy now, who was a towering no-nonsense defender for Arsenal, defenders might soon be in better supply.
