Gabriel Agbonlahor says £40m player made his best-ever Tottenham display vs Brentford on Saturday

Tottenham Hotspur looked to make their return to winning ways on the weekend and they did exactly that against Brentford.

Ange Postecoglou‘s men were in desperate need of a bounce back result against the Bees having lost their prior two games against Newcastle United and Arsenal.

Tottenham were able to prevail in the end having suffered an early blow with Brentford taking the lead inside the opening 30 seconds of the game.

The Lilywhites have now been able to climb back into the top half of the table with the victory which was very much needed.

And there were a number of players who came into the game perhaps needing a performance to show they are worthy of keeping their spot in the side.

There is one of those players who Gabriel Agbonlahor actually believes played his best game for the club since signing.

Gabriel Agbonlahor wowed by £40m Tottenham player

Dominic Solanke was able to get off the mark in a Tottenham shirt on Saturday having returned from an injury which kept him out for two games.

He was able to convert a parried shot from James Maddison who was also able to put in a statement display in north London.

Maddison was coming into the game on the back of some criticism after his underwhelming displays in the early stages of the season.

Speaking on , Agbonlahor placed the £40m Maddison in his Team of the Week after he netted the final goal of the game against Brentford.

“Forget about his goal, forget about his assist, his all-round game was outstanding,” he said.

“He was receiving the ball on the half turn, he was playing forward, he was playing risky passes, didn’t care about his pass completion, he was driving past players, floating past the midfield of Brentford.

“I thought it was the best game he has ever had in a Spurs shirt. Outstanding performance and deserves to be in the Team of the Week.”

James Maddison still needs to prove himself against a big side

Maddison has not been able to nail down his best form since he suffered from the ankle injury late last year.

After signing for Spurs last summer, Maddison looked like a really good buy before his form tailed off over the second half of the season.

And although he may have looked good on the weekend against a depleted Brentford side, he needs to carry that form into the games against some of the bigger sides.

Maddison spoke a lot before the North London Derby last week but was unable to back up his words with a performance on the pitch.

A game against Manchester United this weekend would be the perfect opportunity for Maddison to put together another impressive display.
