Finding an elite-level striker in today’s football market is proving more and more difficult.
A forward with a keen eye for goal is hard enough to find but being able to pay the fee their club would demand is even harder.
A prime example of this is Jhon Duran being bought by Al Nassr for £64 million after the 21-year-old had netted on seven occasions in his 20 outings for Aston Villa in the Premier League
West Ham thought they had acquired his services in the summer after a Duran took to social media displaying the infamous ‘Irons’ gesture in a bid to depart Aston Villa, but senior members at the club convinced him to stay.
West Ham then saw a bid for Duran rejected this window, but a much cheaper and familiar alternative was on the cards for the Hammers following that.

Marko Arnautovic targeted for shock West Ham return
Reports from revealed that Graham Potter had looked to reunite Marko Arnautovic with the club in a bid to boost his attacking options.
Inter Milan was open to selling both Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa in the January window in an attempt to reduce their wage bill and make space for potential new signings.
Arnautovic enjoyed a successful spell in English football, the 35-year-old signed for Stoke in 2013 and helped the side have a number of successful season’s in the top flight.
He produced 54 goal contributions in 145 games before West Ham paid £23 million to the Potters for his services.
Arnautovic would go on to average a goal contribution in every other game for the Hammers before departing the club nearly two years later to sign for Shanghai Port.
Despite Potter’s interest in Arnautovic, Sky Sports Italia confirmed that the Austrian had rejected the opportunity to return to the club.
West Ham secured Evan Ferguson signing after Arnautovic rejected reunion
Despite failing to acquire Arnautovic’s services, it was not all doom and gloom for the London club.
West Ham signed Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton on the final day of the transfer window.
The Irish international has been out of favour at the Seagulls and will be relishing the opportunity to get consistent game time. A key factor in Ferguson’s arrival at the club was the opportunity to work with Potter once again after the pair enjoyed a spell together at Brighton.
The 21-year-old will have plenty of opportunities to impress his old boss with Danny Ings the only other forward currently available.
Michail Antonio remains sidelined following his car crash late last year whilst Niclas Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen and Cryscencio Summerville remain unavailable through injury.
