Fabrizio Romano shares Liverpool transfer insight after ‘contacts’ have been made in the final week

Liverpool’s 2024/25 campaign got off to a strong start last weekend with victory over the newly-promoted Ipswich Town.

The Reds have, however, not experienced the same success off the pitch this summer in the transfer market.

Arne Slot‘s side are the only club in the Premier League to still be waiting on their first signing of the summer with less than a week until deadline day.

However, the Reds will not be rushed into making any signings for the sake of it having seen Martin Zubimendi reject a proposed move to Liverpool already.

With just a matter of days now remaining in the summer market, Liverpool are limited as to how big of an impact they can make.

But Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update from Anfield with the fans wanting to know if there will be any new signings.

Liverpool working on late transfer moves ahead of deadline day

Naturally, Slot will have required some time to settle in to his new club and to assess the squad which he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

However, even he surely would not have expected Liverpool to go into the last week of the window without any new signings.

Liverpool are working on a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili but there are seemingly potential other deals which the Reds are trying to get over the line.

According to Romano, the Reds are trying to make something work over the coming days with the prospect of not signing anyone this summer now very real.

“I’m always publishing what I know and what I can say, so at the moment there’s still nothing to report on Liverpool,” he said in his .

“I understand the frustration for Liverpool fans but, for example, Zubimendi was a top target, Liverpool were convinced to get the green light and it didn’t happen. So Liverpool want to be careful and only go for it now if they are 100% sure.

“What I can say once again is that contacts are taking place, so let’s see!”

Liverpool’s contract situations are a real concern

Aside from the lack of transfers, there are other concerns on Merseyside for Liverpool with some of their star players now into the final 12 months of their deals.

Not only could Liverpool be set to lose three of their most important players in Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but they could also lose them for free next summer.

But it seems as if the Reds are not going to allow Alexander-Arnold to leave that easily as they look to work on a new deal for the right-back.

“They will have their chance to keep Trent at the club and extend his contract, let’s see how talks will go,” Romano said.

“Real Madrid appreciation is something I mentioned in March, but at the moment there’s nothing else fresh or concrete to add.”
