Fabrizio Romano says West Ham’s ‘dream’ is to sign ‘incredible’ player but there’s a problem

West Ham United are struggling to sign their ‘dream’ transfer target this summer.

The Julen Lopetegui era at the London Stadium has begun, and there is a lot of excitement in and around the club ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The new Irons boss is expected to bring attractive football to West Ham, which would be a big change compared to what David Moyes produced over the years.

Lopetegui has already been backed with a few new signings, but the Spaniard’s ‘dream’ target is proving difficult to attain in this window.

Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about the situation.

West Ham’s ‘dream’ target is Jean-Clair Todibo

West Ham have done well in this summer’s transfer window so far.

They’ve signed Wes Foderingham on a free transfer and also acquired the services of talented young Brazilian attacker Luis Guilherme.

The Hammers have also spent big to bring Max Kilman to the London Stadium from Wolves, but it looks like Lopetegui is keen to sign another defender in this window.

West Ham have had a bid rejected for Jean-Clair Todibo. The Nice defender was their priority target before they signed Kilman, and their interest has not gone away.

Romano has revealed that West Ham are still keeping an eye on Todibo. The journalist has claimed that he is the Hammers’ ‘dream’ target, but people at the club think he’s still too expensive.

That is the problem right now.

Romano told : “Yeah, it’s a possibility to bring in one more centre-back. Their dream was Jean-Clair Todibo, but it’s still very expensive.

“A €35 million (£29.5m) bid was rejected by Nice, so not an easy deal at all. But West Ham are still looking at centre-back backs for this summer transfer window and at right back, too.”

How much OGC Nice want for Todibo

Todibo’s valuation was always expected to be high this summer.

The defender, branded as a player with ‘‘ potential, had a fine season in France and has been attracting interest from multiple top clubs. Manchester United’s interest is widely known, while Arsenal and Tottenham were said to be keen on Todibo too.

The London Stadium club, however, are the ones who have acted already, and reports have claimed that Todibo was keen on a move to West Ham.

Romano has claimed that the Hammers think a deal for Todibo is considered too expensive, but how much will he cost?

The journalist revealed in his that Nice are demanding around €45 million (£37.8m) for Todibo. That means West Ham are just about £8 million short of the asking price.

It remains to be seen if the two sides can find a compromise in the coming days.
