Fabrizio Romano says it’s only a ‘matter of time’ before ‘superstar’ Arsenal player signs new contract

Arsenal have more good news coming their way.

The Gunners are on cloud nine after beating Real Madrid home and away. They won the tie 5-1 and have made it into the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2009.

Mikel Arteta is a happy man, and the Arsenal manager is beyond proud of how so many of his players stepped up and delivered against the Kings of Europe.

One player in particular has been brilliant for Arsenal over the last few months, and the Gunners are working hard to secure his future at the club.

Fabrizio Romano shares Myles Lewis-Skelly contract update at Arsenal

Myles Lewis-Skelly couldn’t have dreamt of having a better debut season at Arsenal.

The teenager had a good pre-season, but nobody really expected him to get too many opportunities in the first-team, especially at left-back.

Arsenal started the season with Riccardo Calafiori, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Kieran Tierney and Jakub Kiwior as options at left-back, while Jurrien Timber and Takehiro Tomiyasu had also shown that they could play there.

But, fast forward a few months, Lewis-Skelly, who Micah Richards called a ‘superstar’, became Arsenal’s undisputed first choice in that position, and the Gunners view him as a key part of their future.

TBR Football exclusively revealed in March that Arsenal had been in talks with Lewis-Skelly over a new contract since January, even though they didn’t have a sporting director in place.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Andrea Berta is leading the talks, and it’s only a matter of time before Lewis-Skelly’s new contract is signed, sealed and announced.

The journalist tweeted: “Talks between Arsenal and Myles-Lewis Skelly are underway as new deal is considered just a matter of time.

“Andrea Berta will lead the process with club and player very happy together, as Mikel Arteta considers Myles as a key piece for his team also in the future.”

Arsenal need five other players to sign new contracts

Berta has a lot of work to do at Arsenal.

All eyes will be on what the Italian will do in the summer transfer window, but he has deals to sort out internally at the club as well.

As many as five Arsenal players’ contracts need to be addressed in the very near future.

Ethan Nwaneri is one of them. The teenager has been brilliant this season, and he, along with Lewis-Skelly, is the future of the club.

TBR Football exclusively revealed that Berta will try to extend Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba’s contracts too.

The other player Arsenal need to hold talks with is Gabriel Martinelli, whose deal, like the three players above, will expire in 2027.
