Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal did not sign £47m star last year because of Thomas Partey
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Arsenal pulled out of the race to sign Ruben Neves after Thomas Partey stayed at the club last summer.

Fabrizio Romano explains why Arsenal did not sign Ruben Neves
Arsenal were in the market for new midfielders ꦏin last summer’s transfer window.
They brought in Declan Rice from West Ham United and Kai Havertz f꧋rom Chelsea, but Mikel Arteta had his eye on one more player inജ the middle of the park.
Ruben Neves revealed this week that he came close to signing for Arsenal last year, but that transfer failed to materialise. He ended up moving to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arab🧜ia for £47 million ().
Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed why Arsenal did not sign Neves. The journalist claims that the Gunners only wanted the Portuguese midfielder as a replacement for Thomas Partey.
After it was confirmed that the Ghana international was going now𓆉here, Arsenal ended talks with Neves.
Speaking about Neves’ comments, Romano said on his : “To clarify what this means here, Barcelona had an agreement with Neves on personal terms. Arsenal asked his agent about a pote꧒ntial move, but it was less advanced than Barca.
“In the end, it didn’t happen because Wolves🌟 only wanted to sell for a fee in excess of €40m and the best proposal was from Al Hilal.
“The money was the issue – it was impossible for Barcelona to𝔍 complete with this offer, and Arsenal decided to leave talks as it emerged that Thomas Partey wo𒈔uld be staying.”

Thomas Partey could leave Arsenal this summer
When Thomas Partey is fit, he is up there with the best defenဣsive midfielders in the world, but unfortunately for him, injuries have been rea💮lly cruel.
The 30-year-old has played just four games in the Premier League all season. He got himself injured in October and then suffered a setback ahead of the game against Liverpool this month.
Partey is expected to be back soon, ൲but there is a big chance he will leave the club in the summer.
The Ghanaian will turn 31 in June, just before he enters the final year of his contract. That, combined with his terrible injury record since joining Arsenal, makes it very likely that he will be sold.
If that happens, it wouldn’t surprise us to see Arsenal consider Ruben Neves again.
