Everton could send Anthony Gordon back out on loan after failed Preston spell
❀According to the , Everton could look to send Anthony Gordon back out on loan next season after his failed temporary spell with Preston North End.
♔Gordon moved to Deepdale for the second half of the current campaign in a last-ditch , with the intentions of seeing the 20-year-old gain valuable first-team experience ahead of his return to Goodison Park.
🐻But the move is not seen to have gone well for the youngster, as Gordon only started Championship appearances and failed to make it off the bench for any of the Lilywhites’ final five fixtures of the second-tier campaign.
✤Alex Neil stood at the Preston helm when Gordon sealed his move to Lancashire and lauded the youth gem as an ‘exciting’ prospect that he is confident has a bright future in the game (), yet he would not see out the season after being fired in March ().
💫Everton continue to value Gordon’ potential and rate his talent very, very highly, despite the Liverpool-born playmaker failing to register with Preston. He has first-team appearances with the Toffees across all competitions, but no goals.
ꦗCarlo Ancelotti awarded Gordon his Premier League debut away to West Ham United in January 2020 as an early second-half substitute, yet only afforded the Blues product 87 minutes of top-flight action this term – including from one start – before his loan departure.
𒉰It is now likely that Everton will again look to send Gordon out on loan when the transfer market reopens this summer, although he could yet be given another chance to establish himself in Ancelotti’s fold depending on what signings the Italian makes.

𒀰It was clear in January that Gordon had to seal a loan move away from Everton having failed to build on his appearances from last season by cementing his place in Ancelotti’s squad, and his struggles to establish himself at Preston have failed to change that picture.
🤡Ancelotti knew Gordon was by no means the finished product at the end of the 2019/20 term with the former Real Madrid boss quoted by last July as stating he ‘has to improve’, but it is unlikely that he feels enough progress has since been made.
ꦡYet Everton do not need to rush Gordon into the first-team squad if he is not ready with the winger under contract through to 2025 (), so a loan move for the full 2021/22 season would make the most sense for both sides if a suitable destination can be found.
