‘Do us a favour’… Ally McCoist reacts after what Graeme Souness has just said about Celtic and Rangers

The argument of whether Celtic or Rangers should be allowed to ply their trade in the English Premier League is one that has been going on for close to 20 years now.

As both Glasgow clubs continue to dominate Scottish football, the opportunity for Celtic and Rangers to grow and make an impact in Europe is curtailed by the lack of investment and prize money available to them in Scotlandꦑ.

That was when the idea of joining England’s top flight was floated all those years ago and now, Graeme Souness has come up with a radical idea that he thinks would allow both clubs to do just that if they wer🍨e ever allowed into En꧅gland’s top flight.

Speaking on , Souness said, “If they were to come out of that league and s🔯tart operating down here, you could build a stadium in Glasgow that they could share, not that they would want to, for 100,000 people and there would still be people queueing outside waiting to get in against the bigger teams.”

Host, Jeff Stelling, reiterated that Celtic and Rangers would never share a stadium and whilst he admitted that this argument has been going on for years, he was adamant that both Celtic and Rangers could not be parachu🐷ted straight into ♓the English top-flight.

Reacting to Souness’ idea, former Rangers hero, Ally McCoist, replied, “Come on Graeme. I mean do usജ a favour, Graeme.

“Who would vote for it? I mean, you’re certainly not goi🔯ng to get Burnley or Sheffield United or indeed Leeds, at this ꧅moment in time, they’re not going to vote for it.

“So that’s the biggest problem.”

Celtic and Rangers in the English Premier League

Both Glasgow clubs get a lot of stick for not performing in Europe against some of the top teams in either the Champions League or the Europa L♛eague.

What many tend to forget is that the budget Celtic and Rangers operate on dwarfs that of e🗹ven some of the teams in the Europa League.

Entry into the Premier League would open up revenue streams that would ಞallow both clubs to compete on the continent but also in England.

Sure, it may take a few seasons for them to find their fඣeet but with the extra finances available and the fact they wou😼ld be able to attract a much higher calibre of players, Celtic and Rangers would be competing and challenging for the title. Yes, you read that correctly.

And let’s not forget that Celtic have a pretty decent record whenever they come up against English sides in🃏 Europe.

Draws with Man City and wins over the likes of Man United, Liverpool and Blackburnꦍ prove that the Parkhead club can more than match🔥 the best teams down south.

However, I’m not ಞ💎sure if the appetite is there with the fans of both clubs to leave Scotland and play in England.

It would certainly be there for the moneymen at both clubs but if the id♏ea 🐠was floated and became possible, it would be interesting to see how the fans react to it.
