Danny Murphy thinks Mikel Arteta has a ‘bigger problem’ at Arsenal than missing a striker after losing to West Ham
Danny Murphy has warned Mikel Arteta that his Arsenal team has a bigger problem than their injuries and lack of a striker.
Arsenal 𝓡crashed to a 1-0 defeat at home to West Ham United leaving their title challenge on▨ the ropes with an eight-point gap now open.
Jarrod Bowen’s first-half header proved to be the only goal of the game as the Gunners failed to capitalise on Liverpool dropping po⭕ints in midweek.
Arteta was without several key attackers against their London rivals and had to start Mikel Merino up front, however, Murphy thinkไs there is a bigger issue at the Emirates Stadium.

Danny Murphy slams Arsenal’s poor discipline
Danny Murphy has lamented Arsenal’s poor discipline after Myles Lewis-Skelly was shown a red card in their defeat to West Ham.
Lewis-Skelly’s red against the Hammers means that the𝕴 Gunners have now received five red cards across the campaign – more than any other Premier League t🐻eam.
Player sent off | Result |
Declan Rice | Brighton 1-1 (D) |
Leandro Trossard | Man City 2-2 (D) |
William Saliba | Bournemouth 2-0 (L) |
Myles Lewis-Skelly | Wolves 0-1 (W) |
Myles Lewis-Skelly | West Ham 0-1 (L) |
During those matches, Mikel Arteta’s team have dropped ten points which is pretty signi💫ficant given the gap to Liverpool is eight.
Murphy told Match of the Day: “I think it’s 🌟inevitable that any top team missing four of your forward line and Odegaard will be lower than you’ve been on these numbers.
“But for me, the bigger problem has been their discipline. They’ve had five sending-offs –🎃 more than anyone else – and they’ve dropped ten points in those matches.
“That’♐s the gap from them to the top, so people are talking transfer window, fair enough, but the bigger problem for Arsenal this season has been discipline. That’s a huge amount of points to drop.”
Danny Murphy thinks Arsenal have already lost the title
Murphy also admitted that he is confident Arsen𓃲al have already lost the Premier League title to Liverpool who have now got quite a substantial cushion.
The Reds could extend that lead to 11 having played a game more when they travel away to Manche💙ster City on February 23.
“I think so, mainly because I don’t see Arsenal winning all their games and Liverpool can have the odd hiccup – Liverpool have only lost o♒nce – when they play badly still pick up points,” added Murphy.
