Club have signing on standby in fear of Aston Villa taking their £27m player on deadline day
Aston Villa have already completed plenty of transfer business this summer – but another signing could yet be made at Villa Park.
Unai Emery still does not seem satisfied with his squad – with just hours remaining until Friday’s 11pm transfer deadline – although a player who shone in the 2023/24 campaign could arrive.
So, who might Aston Villa sign before the transfer window slams shut? Let’s take a look…
Feyenoord line up replacement in case Lutsharel Geertruida joins Aston Villa
A story from in the Netherlands now states that Feyenoord have Asger Sorensen on standby to replace Lutsharel Geertruida if the Dutchman moves to Aston Villa.
The Dutch news outlet believe the Eredivisie side are still wary of losing the Netherlands international to the Villans at this stage of the transfer window, with 1908 stating that the Feyenoord No.4 could make the switch to Villa Park if Monchi can offload a player before the deadline.
It comes after claimed that Aston Villa are not afraid to meet Feyenoord’s £27m asking price for Geertruida following his immense 2023/24 campaign.

The 24-year-old made 47 appearances in all competitions under Arne Slot as Feyenoord finished second in the Eredivisie, scoring nine goals while also providing five assists in 47 appearances from defence.
Geertruida primarily operated on the right – making 35 appearances in that area – but also played on the left and in the centre of defence.
Unai Emery faces competition
It would be wise of Aston Villa to strike a verbal agreement with the versatile defender in case Feyenoord do sanction a sale late on – as other clubs are also looking to sign the man from Rotterdam.
Interestingly, PSG are keen to land Geertruida after his outstanding efforts last season, with the aforementioned story from Foot Mercato even stating that he agreed to join the Parisians earlier this summer, before the deal was put on hold.

Furthermore, Tottenham have also been linked with a move for Geertruida as Ange Postecoglou aims to enhance his defensive options – presumably, PSG and Spurs can both afford to meet that £27m asking price like Aston Villa, so the threat is certainly there.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as there could be further movement on transfer deadline day.
