Club believe they can sign Tottenham player for £11m less than Spurs paid for him
One of Europe’s biggest clubs now believe they can sign a Tottenham player for much less than Spurs spent to secure his signature.
A number of players could depart N17 this summer as Ange Postecoglou continues to shape Spurs in his image, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg at risk of being sold.
Emerson Royal is also up for sale at Spurs this summer, although AC Milan – the main competitor for his signature – believe they can strike a deal below Tottenham‘s asking price…
AC Milan think they can sign Emerson Royal for £15m
A story from now claims that AC Milan believe they can sign Emerson Royal for just €18m (£15m) this summer – despite Tottenham placing a €20m (£17m) price tag on the Brazilian.
Spurs paid to sign the South American from Barcelona back in August 2021 – so those in north London are staring a fairly substantial loss in the face either way.
Emerson Royal has already spoken about AC Milan’s desire to sign him, and seems pleased by interest coming from the San Siro.

Gazzetta dello Sport quote the Brazil international as saying during an interview with Andre Hernan: “I know that Milan is in contact with Tottenham, they have asked for information about me.
“For me it is very gratifying because many Brazilian players have played for Milan. Let’s wait and see what will happen. Milan is a very important and heavy shirt. Knowing that teams like this are following me makes me very happy.”
Gazzetta dello Sport add that Emerson Royal is keen to join AC Milan – after making just 11 Premier League starts last season.
Tottenham should accept £15m and move on
In our view, even £15m is a decent fee for the South American – given how poorly he has performed in English football.
Spurs even had to spend £39m to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting CP in January 2023 after Emerson Royal made a mess of nailing down the right-back position.
Roy Keane summed it up nicely after the 25-year-old’s horror show in last season’s 4-2 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield, telling Sky Sports: “He doesn’t smell danger. Wherever he is in the back four, he doesn’t smell danger, whether he is at right-back or left-back. He is not going to get to know at this stage of his career.”

Of course, £15m would represent a £10.8m loss for Tottenham, although that £15m can be put towards a player Postecoglou does actually want to have in his squad.
