Chelsea outcast Morata holds the key to Newcastle’s hopes of loaning Martins
Newcastle want to bring in Atletico Madrid wideman Gelson Martins on loan until the end of the season,
They that the Magpies have turned to the foreign loan market to get the reinforcements Rafa Benitez wants, after a January of stagnation so far.
But the Spanish giants only want to clear the decks to make space for Alvaro Morata, who they want on loan from Chelsea, with Gonzalo Higuain set to take his place at Stamford Bridge.
So the transfer chain that Newcastle hope will end with increased flair out wide now rests on whether Morata can seal his move to Diego Simeone’s men.

With Higuain set to get the ball rolling, Newcastle would be right to be optimistic, and it would be a real boost to their survival bid if they could get Martins through the door this month.
Martins has struggled for gametime at Atletico this season, and has just one goal to his name from his 12 outings and a temporary move away suits both parties.
It is not quite clear why Atletico are so keen to bring Morata to their club – but if Newcastle can be the beneficiaries, they won’t mind at all.
