‘Can be one of the best’: Willian in awe of Arsenal player who Bob Wilson deemed ‘unbelievable’

Arsenal newcomer Willian has waxed lyrical about new Gunners teammate and fellow Brazilian Gabriel Martinelli, in conversation with the club’s .

The 19-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Brazilian side Ituano FC last summer for £6million, has been a sensation at the Emirates Stadium since his arrival.

With 10 goals and four assists from 26 Gunners appearances, Martinelli became the first teenage goalscorer to reach double figures for Arsenal since Nicolas Anelka in 1998-99.

Martinelli has already received plenty of plaudits, with the likes of Arsenal legend Bob Wilson calling him “unbelievable” and praising his “god-given” ability ().

Cesc Fabregas, meanwhile, as the one player in the current Arsenal squad he wished he could be playing alongside now.

And Bernd Leno told : “He can become a world class player. World class 100 percent because he has talent, he has quality.”

Now, Willian – who joined Arsenal last week after leaving Chelsea – has claimed that Martinelli can go on to become one of the Premier League’s best, and urged Brazil to call him up.

“He has a great future I think,” Willian told Arsenal Digital, as transcribed by the official . “He can be one of the best players in the Premier League, no doubt.

“It’s because of his quality and also without the ball you can see that he is always trying to help his team and do the job without the ball. So I think he can be one of the best players.

“I think when he starts to play again, I know he is injured now, but when he starts again, it’s about time for him to go to the Brazilian national team.”
