Brentford boss Thomas Frank hails ‘unbelievable’ Fulham star after Craven Cottage comeback

As Brentford boss Thomas Frank said after Monday’s heartbreaking defeat to Fulham, sometimes games in the Premier League can be decided by the finest of margins.

In the blink of an eye, the narrative swap🎃ped from a remarkable smash-and-grab victory away at Craven Cottage for his Brentford side, to a stunning comeback win fo🔜r their West London rivals.

The Bees were 1-0 up headi🀅ng into the second minute of stoppage time, thanks to Vitaly Janelt’s thumping first-half strike and some heroic defending.

But as Harry Wilson wheeled away for the second time – equalising with a sublime flick before shouldering in the winner – Thomas Frank was left ꦆto rue a pair of r🌳apid-fire strikes which, on another day, could easily have dropped wide of the net rather than into it.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane🔯 was blown away after Wilson🎐 scored a stunner for Wales during the September international break. This, however, was arguabꦚly even better from a man who doesn’t tend to score ordinary goals.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank lauds Harry Wilson’s Fulham heroics

“Of course, [💟to lose like this is] brutal, in many ways,” Frank sighs, understandably dejected but accepting that Fulham were the deserved winners in the end. “It is fine margins in general. I think, on the day, it’s fair to say that the better team won.

“But, when you’re leading 1-0 away from home also in the 9♐2nd or 93rd minute… they won’t be praising us for the defending, which I still think was fantastic in many ways. I think the blocks were good, the prin🐎ciples, the character, the mentality, the effort; unbelievable.

“Th🔴e boys did everything. Then, they thrown everything at us and it was a unbelievable touch from Wilson. In 100 out of 100 situations, I would have [backed him not to score again].

“I think it’s one in 100 that will go in the back of the net from that pos🦂ition, that angle.”

Wilson’s 97th minute decider was Fulham’s 29th shot of a largely one-sided encounter. The Cottagers also mustered 68 per cent of the possession while restricting their local rivals to just fi🐷ve attempts on goal themsel🏅ves.

Marco Silva delighted as Fulham’s Reiss Nelson praised

“I agree, we definitely deserved ๊the three points,” Marco Silva smiles aᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ⁤⁤⁤⁤ᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚt his own press conference. “No doubt about it.

“Tonight, we saw a little bit of what has been our season so far – being dominant in most of the games, the best team on the pitch 🦄most of the games, creating much more♛ chances than the opposition side.

“We tried everything from the bench, with Adama [Traore], and after with Tom Cairney, with Rodrigo [Muniz], to put more fresh legs, with Harry Wilson in a different position,” Silva adds, his decision to field the Welsh international in a 🌠more central role paying dividends.

“Normally, Harry Wilson plays more on the right-hand side. In that moment🌄, we tried him a little bit closer to Rodr🍰igo in the pocket areas to arrive.

“We know thﷺat he smells i🍰t, he has good timing to arrive in the box. We were rewarded for that, the players were rewarded for that.”

On a night in which Fulham’s substitutes made the difference, a man who was rew💞🦄arded on the back of some lively cameos with a rare Cottagers start also did his hopes of more regular minutes no harm at all.

Reiss Neℱlson, in Marco Silva’s XI for the first time in the Premier League, was a constant thorn in Brentford’s side with his direct running and trickery in tight spaces.

This was another performance in which Nelson outshined fellow Arsenal import🍷 Emile Smith Rowe.

“Reiss Nelson has been brilliant. He couldn’t have done any more,” Sky Sports’ ꧒co-commenta🔜tor and former Arsenal striker Alan Smith said of the Gunners loanee.

“Really good performance from him.”
