Bournemouth 2018/19 preview: Brooks’ potential, starting strong and avoiding injuries

Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth secur💦ed an impressive 12th place finish in the Premier League last season, despite a somewhat underwhelming year.

Ahead of the 2018/19 campaign, we caught up with fan site  to get the low-down on progress made🌜 on and off the pitch…

What do you make of your club’s pre-season preparations, both on and off the pitch?

It has been a short pre-season so far. The Spanish camp at La🌱 Manga was fairly impressive w൲ith a draw against Sevilla FC and a 4-3 win over Levante.

The players were rotated at half-time in both games so we did not get much of a look at individuals as fitness levels wer♉e still low.

They came back and had a 1-1 draw with Bristol City before Nottingham Fores𝓰t beat them 2-0. I think Eddie Howe has a good idea of his first 11 already, though.

Which of your club’s summer signing has you most excited about the new campaign?

Bournemouth have been slow with summer spending and have only boug🧔ht two players so far – David Brooks from Sheffield United and Diego Rico from Leganes.

We have seen Brooks in the two games inܫ La Manga as well as up at Forest, and he has shown that he can p🎉lay on either wing, in midfield and behind the striker.

He is strong on the ball. If he is good at making decisions in the last third of the pitch he could become a real fans favourite, but he is only 20ꦏ and may need a bit of time to settle.

Who’s your club’s young-player-who-could-make-a-breakthrough this season?

Jack Simpson played a couple of Premier League games last seaso🀅n and he is probably the only one who I’d say is likely to get a few games from those trying to break into the team who have been through the youth system.

He is a very accomplished centre back and h𝕴as a kꦛnack of scoring from corners.

He has been ꦐused in some cup games but I’m hoping he can get a few more big games in the league as he is certainly good enough.

What will be your club’s biggest factor behind achieving its targets this season?

Getting off to a good start is the thing that Bournemouth have not managed in ♑any of their previous Premier League campaigns.

If they get some ear🔜ly wins and build the confidence♔ then anything is almost possible.

Being in the bottom th🔜ree in November and December is a hard place to be and it has been necessary to pull a few rabbits out of the hat against the top six teams in previous seasons.

It is prob🍸able that the club will have to do ꧟that again if they don’t start well.

What will be your club’s biggest barrier to achieving its targets this season?

Injuries are the thing🧸 I’ll be most concerned ab𝕴out.

We have had some major injuries to key players like Callum Wilson, Tyrone Mings and Junior Stanislas in the past and Bournemouth 💦never have a massive squad, so losing players for large parts of the season is a big worry.

Stanislas is going to miss the start of the seaso🐬n with his knee in🔥jury.

Which club outside yours do you think has done the best business this summer?

Liverpool look more of a class act now. They have built on a team that is alrea🐠dy confident of winning games an🐲d their spending has been big in the summer.

Bringing in a new keeper ⭕was probably a must for them but they have also strengthened the defence with Fabinho and we all know what Xherd𒆙an Shaqiri can do when he is in the mood.

If you had to pick a six-a-side team from your club’s current squad, who would be in it?

Finally, how do you think your team will have done come the end of the 2018/19 season?

I’m not sur🐟e that Bournemouth will do as well as last season as the clubs coming up from the Championship are ver🌳y strong and points will be as hard to get as ever.

I think the club wil𝐆l aim for a top 10 finish but I think we may be short of that and could 🌳finish in about 14th this season.
