Arne Slot told Liverpool have an ‘outstanding’ teenager who could be as good as Arsenal’s Max Dowman
Liverpool and Arsenal were the two best teams in the Premier League last season.
Arne Slot surprised many people by winning the title in his debut campaign, while Mikel Arteta, even though he finished second again, deserves praise for not letting his team collapse after all of their injuries.
Even though Arsenal haven’t won a major trophy yet, their academy is helping them save millions by developing one incredible young player after another.
After Bukayo Saka, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, the next youngster making all the noise is young Max Dowman.
Liverpool may have their own version of the Arsenal teenager.
Liverpool wonderkid Rio Ngumoha could be like Arsenal’s Max Dowman
Rio Ngumoha has become a household name for Liverpool fans.
The teenager joined the Reds from Chelsea’s academy in 2024, and he has impressed everyone behind the scenes at the club.
Liverpool fans have seen a few videos of his skills over the last year, and that has raised the excitement level. Now, they got to see him under Slot, and he has blown everyone away.
Ngumoha came off the bench for the Reds against Yokohama on Wednesday, and he scored a lovely goal to help his side win 3-1.
Before that happened, Ben Jacobs raved about the 16-year-old and predicted that Ngumoha could have the same hype that Dowman has around him at Arsenal right now.
He said on the Anything Liverpool YouTube channel: “With Rio, only 16, outstanding, could potentially play in the Luis Diaz role. So is that going to form any part of their thinking in the next sort of year or two in terms of whether they go for a young left winger now, a replacement for Diaz, or just put all of their efforts into Alexander Isak?
“Outstanding player, highly rated. Several top European and English clubs were looking at him. So, a coup that Liverpool have been able to sign him, and he reminds me in many ways of the sort of hype we’re getting at Arsenal with Max Dowman.
“This is a player who very quickly could become very spoken about and given significant minutes, maybe within the next two seasons at Liverpool Football Club.
“So, keep an eye on him. Pre-season is not always a gauge of where a player will be and what their next pathway will be, either. But I think Liverpool hold high, high hopes for Rio’s development as somebody who could be a very serious Liverpool player in the future.”
Arne Slot tells Rio Ngumoha what he did wrong vs Yokohama
Liverpool fans are in awe of Ngumoha after watching his goal against Yokohama on Wednesday.
The teenager drove forward with the ball, cut inside and unleashed a fine strike. It really was a very good goal, and with Diaz gone, there is a chance he could get senior opportunities in the upcoming campaign.
However, Slot has made it clear that Ngumoha still has a lot to learn.
He said after the game, as per : “Rio again showed the quality he has and that’s nice for us because we have a lot of very good players.
But to get some very good players through the Academy is always helpful and always gives energy to a team as well. It’s always nice to see young players from 16, 17 or 18 years old already impacting a game.
“There was also a moment in the game where he should have squared it to Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] or Curtis. So, [there were] also learning parts for him. If you are 16 and you can impact the game like he did, that’s definitely worth a compliment.”
