Ange Postecoglou says Mathys Tel has already done something that shows he’s got the ‘right mentality’ for Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur made one of the biggest Premier League signings on deadline day when they landed Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich.
Spurs were in pursuit of Mathys Tel in the last few weeks of the January transfer window, though Tel initially turned Tottenham down.
However, Tel then made a U-turn and was on his way to Tottenham to complete a loan switch from the Bundesliga giants.
It is also understood that Tottenham have managed to negotiate a summer option to buy Tel in the loan agreement with Bayern.
Ange Postecoglou has now discussed Tel and shared what the player has done that’s already impressed the Tottenham manager.

Postecoglou, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the League Cup clash with Liverpool, shared what he made of Tel’s initial stalling.
The Tottenham boss stressed it was not a case of him rejecting Spurs, but rather he wanted to take his time and made the right decision.
Postecoglou said Tel did the right thing and admitted he’s been impressed by how the player went about his decision as it shows the “right mentality”.
“People need to understand we’re talking about a 19-year-old player with a major decision, it’s not so much about rejecting us or anyone,” Postecoglou told .
“He wanted to be comfortable with the decision. He didn’t want to be pushed in a certain direction, credit to him.
“I had a conversation with him and purely around the football and that I think he’ll find a great place here in terms of where is in his career.
“We’ve shown irrespective of age, he’ll get an opportunity and the way we play will suit him and what we have in the next few months and beyond it’s a perfect fit.
“It’s right that it took as long as it did so he’s comfortable with it.
“That he took so much time and was diligent, and made the decision when he had options, it meant the right mentality, right player.
“He’s ambitious, with self belief and self confidence and feels he can reach the very top.”

TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has revealed that Tottenham staff are already ‘over the moon’ about the Tel deal.
Spurs believe that their hard work in the last 24 hours of the January window has seen them achieve one of the best deals of the winter market.
Furthermore, the Lilywhites believe that the loan move to bring Tel to the club is as good as any deal done in Europe during this window.
Tottenham insist that they never gave up and that the striker’s camp always gave them some confidence that a deal could be achieved.
All in all, Spurs believe that Tel is a ‘generational talent’, a player who could thrive under Postecoglou.
