Ange Postecoglou shares how James Maddison surprised him even before Tottenham’s 1-0 win vs Man United

As Tottenham Hotspur deservedly beat Manchester United 1-0 on Sunday, James Maddison emerged as their match-winner by scoring the game’s only goal in the 13th minute.

Heading into the contest against United, the Tottenham midfielder came under heavy criticism.

Emmanuel Petit claimed Maddison “disappears” and compared him to the struggling Mason Mount.

But it was Roy Keane who blasted Maddison after Ian Wright suggested that his return could💃 help Spurs get back to their best.

But the manner in which James Maddison celebrated afౠter his goal suggested that he was responding to Keane’s heated comments by doing his talking on the pitch.

Ange Postecoglou didn’t expect swift James Maddison return from injury for Tottenham vs Man United

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was initially quizzed about his thoughts on Maddison potentially hitting back at Keane after scoring against his former club Manchester United and the Australian played down th𒆙e Englishman’s gesture.

Postecoglou responded via BeanymanSports: “Yeah, everyone’s mentioned his celebration, I didn’t see it so꧅ I can’t comment on it, it doesn’t surprise me that Madders didn’t accept what was beꩵing said about him and threw a shot over the barrel.”

Ange Postecoglou proceeded to admit that he did not expect Maddison to be fit in time to feature against Manchester United, let alone start the contest.

“But just great t𝓰o have him back, he’s a quality player, again, if you just look at his goals return from midfield, it’s still right up there, you know? He got frustrated when he got injured and to be honest, we didn’t think he’d be back for a couple of weeks but ♉he’s worked awfully hard in training, done everything right to make sure he’s available.”

“Pleased for🗹 Madders, took his goal well but also contributed to sort of us getting a victory.”

After the contest, Maddison was spotted high-fiving the Tottenham 🐼supporters.

The former Leicester City attacker’s look to the camera was o𝓀ne that wa♋s cheeky and perhaps suggested that he was firing shots at Roy Keane.

Only Maddison will truly kno🌺w whether he meant to do so.

But most importantly for the FA Cup winner, his sꦏide beat Manchester United and boun♍ced back.

As Maddison will be celebrating the victory,♍ the𝓡 28-year-old will also be determined to build on his inspired performance upon returning from injury.
