Ange Postecoglou says 19-year-old youngster has looked ‘very good’ in Tottenham training recently

Tottenham Hotspur impressed in their opening pre-season friendly on Wednesday night at Tynecastle.

It was a night which saw Ange Postecoglou field two different sides in each half with the minutes spread out across the squad.

The Lilywhites cruised to a 5-1 victory but perhaps the most pleasing aspect of the night for Tottenham was the performances of some of their young prospects.

On their debut, the likes of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall put in some impressive performances that will have caught the eye of the travelling fans.

The Spurs youngsters put on a real show in the second half with four goals scored after the break.

But there is a player who Postecoglou admitted has really impressed him in training recently which earned him a shot against Hearts.

Ange Postecoglou wowed by Tottenham prospect in training

The night was dominated by the prospects which Tottenham are bringing through from their academy.

Putting Bergvall and Gray aside, Spurs fans were able to witness the ability of Mikey Moore who was also able to get his name on the scorehseet.

The 16-year-old is just one of the youngsters who will be knocking on Postecoglou’s door for opportunities this season.

Another youngster to find the back of the net was striker Will Lankshear who only played 22 minutes having came on at half time.

Speaking after the game, Postecoglou told the media that Lankshear had seriously impressed during recent training sessions at Hotspur Way.

“Will was good. We kind of brought him in this last week. He’s looked bright in training. He worked hard,” Postecoglou said.

“He’s had a very good year last year and it’s about rewarding him for that. It’s about coming in and making an impact. He did well and he took his goal well.”

Will Lankshear could earn himself Tottenham opportunity

Having only played just over 20 minutes, Spurs fans will be hoping it is a sign the 19-year-old is set for a bigger role on Saturday against Queens Park Rangers.

In his brief display, the striker – who has just signed a new deal – was able to show more than Heung-min Son, Alejo Veliz and Dane Scarlett combined.

The latter came on for the final eight minutes and squandered two great opportunities to find the back of the net.

If Lankshear is able to impress over pre-season, who knows what that could mean for him ahead of the new campaign.

There are clubs said to be interested in signing Lankshear on loan this summer, but displays like this could well persuade Postecoglou to hand him some first team minutes this term.
