Alex Mowatt, Robert Snodgrass and Ross McCormack react to Leeds transfer news
Leeds United are up and running in the transfer window, getting two new signings over the line in recent days.
💖The Whites’ first incoming deal of the summer saw Joe Rodon return to Elland Road on a permanent deal following his impressive loan stint last term.
Leeds followed up the signing of Rodon🅺 by bringing experienced goalkeeper Alex Cairns back to Elland Road on a two-year contract.
🅘According to , the 31-year-old has swapped Salford City for the Whites for a ‘nominal six-figure fee’.
ဣCairns is set to fill the role of third-choice keeper behind Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow after Kristoffen Klaesson joined Polish top flight side Rakow Czestochowa.

Alex Cairns welcomed back to Leeds United by peers
🐈Cairns came through the ranks at Leeds and made his professional debut at the club in the 2011/12 season.
♌After taking in a number of loan spells while on the Whites’ books, he left Elland Road to sign for Chesterfield in 2015.
ꦗCairns has since been on the books of Rotherham United, Fleetwood Town and Salford City, ultimately leaving the Lions to link up with Leeds once again.
💦While at Salford, the keeper started the Carabao Cup first round tie against Leeds last term, triumphing in the penalty shoot-out against his boyhood side.
🔯Leeds shared news of Cairns’ return on their Instagram, and a number of his peers, including Alex Mowatt, Robert Snodgrass and Ross McCormack, replied in the comments.
💖Mowatt wrote “nice Alan, hair looks class”, Snodgrass wrote “well done big fella”, and McCormack wrote “tell you what, fantastic from the banter master”.
Cairns classed as homegrown player for Leeds
꧋As per Leeds Live, a key element of the deal is the fact that it satisfies two EFL regulations.
💮Cairns is a homegrown ‘club developed player’, who has been with the club for three years before the age of 21.
🌌EFL rules state that clubs must name a minimum of one ‘club developed player’ and seven homegrown players in a 25-man squad list. Cairns helps Leeds hit this quota along with Sam Byram.
🔜On an EFL matchday team sheet, the Whites must also name one club developed player that has been with the club for three seasons or more.
🌸The departures of Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell left Leeds down two club developed players.
ౠBut now, the Whites can name Cairns, Byram or any of the current Under-21s who have been at Thorp Arch for three seasons or more.
