Alasdair Gold shares what he’s heard about Wolves’ Joao Gomes after claims Tottenham want to sign him

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move to sign Joao Gomes from Wolves this summer.

Spurs have had a decent transfer window so far. They re-signed Timo Werner on another loan, while Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall Dominic Solanke and Wilson Odobert were all brought in on permanent deals.

Despite the disappointing start to the season against Leicester City, Tottenham should be optimistic about what they can achieve in this campaign. However, many feel they still need a new midfielder before the window shuts next Friday.

In a , Alasdair Gold has shared what he knows about Joao Gomes.

Alasdair Gold says Tottenham are not in the race to sign Joao Gomes

Wolves signed Gomes from Flamengo in January 2023.

The Brazilian has made a brilliant name for himself at Molineux, and his performances have earned him a ton of praise over the last 18 months.

Gomes was a regular for Wolves in the Premier League in the 2023/24 season. A number of top clubs have been impressed with his displays and he is said to be a target for a few of them too.

Reports revealed that Tottenham are interested in signing Gomes to bolster their midfield this summer, but Gold doesn’t believe that’s the case at all.

He has revealed that Spurs are not believed to be in the race to sign Neves in this window because Postecoglou is more than happy with Gray and Bergvall.

The two youngsters are expected to get plenty of opportunities this season.

Gold said: “I mentioned the other day that Spurs are not believed to be in for Joao Gomes.

“I think the club will continue to look at various positions over the next 10 days or so to add depth if they can, but I think Postecoglou is also very keen to let Gray and Bergvall loose on the Premier League and both can play in that role.”

Do Tottenham need a new midfielder?

Tottenham parted ways with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Tanguy Ndombele this summer, while Oliver Skipp has also been moved on permanently.

That made many people believe Spurs need a new midfielder because they lack physicality in the middle of the park, and there definitely is an argument to be made about that.

However, Tottenham still have Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma there, while Gray and Bergvall are also capable of playing in central midfield.

So, unless an opportunity that they simply can’t refuse pops up, we think Tottenham should stick to the midfield they have right now.
