£50m Arsenal target has ordered his agent to stop negotiating with clubs from England
Mikel Arteta’s number one transfer target this summer now appears to have rejected the chance to seek a move to Arsenal.
Right now it seems as if Edu and his transfer team are beginning to step up their work, perhaps prompted by the club’s official start to pre-season.
Arteta and his Arsenal players are now in the US – well at least the ones who didn’t feature in the Euros or Copa America.
In terms of new signings there are none with the group – unless you count 18-year-old goalkeepers Lucas Nygaard and Tommy Setford.
That could change imminently, though, with Riccardo Calafiori soon set to undergo his Arsenal medical.
Whether the Italian would join Arsenal in the US remains to be seen, but right now it appears most likely that his first minutes could come in the Emirates Cup back in London.
That being said, in terms of players Arteta will hope to arrive after Calafiori, it seems as if Spaniards Mikel Merino and Nico Williams are top of the list.
And although Arsenal are progressing with Merino, it seems their pursuit of Wiliams could be coming to an end.
Arsenal target Nico Williams has ruled out a move to the Premier League
It’s recently been reported that Barcelona were determined to beat Arsenal to Williams, and it looks like their hard work is paying off.
According to , Barca have now presented a formal contract proposal to Williams and as a result, the £50m-rated winger has ordered his agent to stop negotiations with anyone but the Catalan club.

Right now, the information insists that all that is missing from proceedings is a ‘yes’ from Williams to Barcelona’s proposal.
But judging by the tone of the report, that isn’t too far away.
Sport claim that a move to the Premier League has been ‘ruled out’ and not even Paris Saint-Germain’s late interest can stop Barcelona from landing their number one target.
Of course, given that Williams was Arteta’s number one Arsenal target, it will be interesting to see how the club react, who they turn to next.
And perhaps the club decide to chase to a Arsenal-linked striker who is determined to come to England, someone who knows how to score a goal or 22.
