£30m ‘special’ attacker would be a much better signing than Charles De Ketelaere for Newcastle United – opinion

Newcastle United will know that a good January transfer window could propel them back into Europe next season.

They’ve started this season terrifically, and currently find themselves in the top four of the Premier League.

It’s a name Leeds United fans will be very familiar with as De Ketelaere was one of their main transfer targets this summer.

The young Belgian eventually moved to AC Milan from Club Brugge but hasn’t enjoyed the best start to life in Italy.

The forward has yet to score in 15 appearances and has just one assist to his name.

suggest Newcastle are weighing up a £25.8m bid for the 21-year-old.

De Ketelaere is a better player than his current statistics suggest, but there may be a better option on the market.

Newcastle have also been linked with a move for Brighton winger Leandro Trossard, who would be a better signing than De Ketelaere.

suggests that Newcastle are considering making a move for the £30m-rated Trossard.

The 27-year-old Belgian has been Brighton best attacker this season, and already has 7 league goals to his name.

The ‘special’ winger also made it clear that he would consider leaving the south coast, .

Trossard’s contract runs out in 2024, making him much more likely to leave his current club than the recently-arrived De Ketelaere.

The 21-year-old is certainly a player for the future, and would have plenty of time to develop at St. James’ Park.

However, Trossard would be a better signing than De Ketelaere for the present, especially given his current form.

He’s also used to playing in the Premier League, which isn’t always a necessity but would help him adapt to his new team.

De Ketelaere has played in several different positions for AC Milan since arriving, and that lack of consistency has certainly hindered him.

Trossard meanwhile has spent enough time playing under Potter to have mastered several different roles.

If Newcastle are going to make a move for a Belgian in January, it should be Trossard over De Ketelaere.
