£15m player really wants Newcastle to make a bid for him in January
The January transfer window is almost upon us and Newcastle are one of the teams who may want to be busy next month.
Indeed, Newcastle’s season so far hasn’t goneꦺ to plan, and they’re som🍒e way off being in the top four despite recent improved results.
N🐲ewcastle do have some targets in mind for January.
Marc Guehi remains a Newcastle target, while the Magpies are keen on Bazoumana Toure too.
Speaking on NUFC Matters, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Newcastle’s January transfer plans, and he’s claimed that James Trafford could be an option for the Tyneside club.

James Trafford could be an option for Newcastle
Jacobs spoke about Traff🦂ord and a potential move to St James’ Park.
Trafford was linked with Newcastle in the summer.
The journalist says that Trafford would love Newcastle to make a move for him, and he could be avail🧸able for around £15m.
“James Trafford we know has a bit more of a concreꩵte history. Newcastle had negotiated and had pushed and made an offer,” Jacobs said.
“The player would love Newcastle to m🐽ake another formal approach. The feeling🐭 is that Trafford might be available for £12-15m all in and Newcastle may be able to make that oe work. So Trafford could be one to watch.”
James Trafford stats at Burnley compared to Nick Pope
It is interesting to hear Trafford being linked with Newcastle. After all, the Magpies signed their most-recent number one gꦑoalkeeper from Turf Moor as well.
Pope and Trafford have both had spells as Burnley’s number one, and it’s interesting to compare😼 the two players’ stats during their time in Lancashire.
James Trafford record at Burnley | Nick Pope record at Burnley | |
Games | 58 | 155 |
Wins | 16 | 51 |
Draws | 13 | 45 |
Losses | 29 | 59 |
Goals conceded | 70 | 186 |
Clean sheets | 14 | 53 |
Goals conceded per game | 1.2 | 1.2 |
Clean sheet percentage | 24% | 0.34 |
Pope’s stats at Burnley are actually better than Trafford’s, and that’s in🔯 spite of the fact that Trafforꦇd has spent this season in the Championship where he’s expected to concede fewer goals in a more dominant side.
Of course, Pope isn’t 🌞getting any younger and Trafford is an up-and-comer, so this is a deal that would make a lot of sense.
Howevﷺer, ♎if Trafford were to join Newcastle he may not be the Magpies’ number one straight away given that Pope is still operating at quite a solid level.
It will be interestꦆing to see what Newcastle do in the January transfer window after a quiet summer in terms of spending.
